Most likely, they made a heck of a lot more sense then the benders. Korra was a bully, that pretty much proved their point, threatening them with her power.
Most definitely! The benders are/were becoming uncontrollable........they had no respect for nonbenders whatsoever, and used their bending to walk all over them. That sure isn't right. The Equalist Movement was pretty awesome, and I'm really disappointed that it mysteriously has been solved by the second season. -__-
^^ How I see it it didn't get better at all but because the show is nolonger in RC we can't see it. Only one extremist sect was actually put down. The greater movement is just biding it's time. Amon may have soured some to the cause but the problem is still there. It will just take awhile for them to rebuild. If the writers are smart they with bring it up again later in the show. They still have at least two seasons left.
No and I would have argued a LOT better than Korra! I really cringed, when I watched that part... korra is the worst debator EVER!!! She just proved their point!!
I would never have joined the equalists, even if I was a non-bender, I'd still find the idea of a world without bending really boring! I'd stick up for myself (and others) against a nasty bender, but I'd respect the fact that there are lots of really nice benders out there who use their power for good and don't deserve to have it taken away from them!
Magical: So everyone of those none benders were bad guys then? And Korra threatening them with her power was being good, huh? God, you sound just as bad as they do you know? Racist against none benders.
Hell yeah, the benders in that city are complete salauds. I mean they treat them like dirt, make them live in horrible rat holes, and show them no respect. Why the heck wouldn't you support a movement to get them to be treated better?
Magical: Frankly, the benders are the bad guys, not the none-benders. And you sound just as biased as they do and showing just as much favoritism. I don't even think you were taught right from wrong.
Edvygrl8: The equalists have been taking peoples bending for no reason and hurting them. That seems pretty bad to me. It seems you were not taught from right and wrong.
@Magicalgirl12 Good point, but I don't think all the equalists wanted to destroy bending just Amon and his extremist sect. :D :D That larger group of equalists with a clearly valid and noble cause. I'd join them in a heartbeat. Do you not think that the not benders are being treated unfairly by the benders?
^Wanted to destory Amon? I thought they were on his side xD But thank you for being nice and not like those two. It makes me truly happy. Well Mako in ep 9 almost looked like he was about to kill one of the equalists but that was only because he was angry that Korra was missing. Anger has like took over him and that happens to me a lot.
I thought you said that and I was like what the f*** xD Oh now I looked on there that you said that. I thought you said they all wanted to kill Amon. It was a mistake oops! That would have been crazy thou. Great now i'm laughing about that. xD
Because knowing my luck, I'd be broke and oppressed lol. Why not stand up for myself. And putting myself into the mind set of one of the equalists; Korra didn't make a very good first impression.
I agree with @Imaneasel
I understand their cause and all but them using weapons and force just aggravated the benders and made the benders think they were bad people. I think they should've used something like Civil Disobedience because I think that would've helped them out better than what they were doing.
I think that if people like MLK and Rosa Parks resorted to violence to prove their point it'd just make them even more hated and make people hate African Americans even more.
This whole scenario reminds me way too much of X men, and the war between Magneto's brotherhood and mankind. Neither side was right there, and I don't believe either side to be right here.
I'm going to argue strongly against this bizarre idea that seems to have sprung up, that benders are somehow the upper-class citizens while non-benders are like the lower class. I'm sorry, but why then did Mako and Bolin grow up on the streets, while Asami and her father lived in a mansion? There's no clear cut system that says one is better than the other; it just seems to be the way that benders find it easier because they have abilities that normal people don't.
Honestly, I think the problems in the Avatar world aren't caused by bending, but by human nature - you know, kind of like in our world. If you want proof of that, re-watch Avatar Wan's story, and look at the time before bending was allowed in cities. Oppression and corruption are always going to happen, regardless of whether some people have these extra abilities, and to lump them all into the same category and blame all your troubles on them is like racism in itself. And from what I remember of my history lessons, it's the sort of attitude that caused the holocaust.

I think Amon was just an extremist most equalist don't want to hurt anyone they just want to be treated fairly.
