He's tried to kill her, he was abusive until he got his soul in the end of Season 6. I love her and Angel together. I wanted them to be together. Then when he left and she took up with Riley, who I just could not stand one bit. What the hell did she ever see in him? I've seen Season 4 over and over and I just keep thinking what a loser. He's unattractive, he may be tough, sometimes but he was needy, clingy, insecure all the things every woman or almost every woman hates in a relationship. Riley was just all wrong for her. Spike and Buffy meet in season 2 - as he attempts to kill her and yeah I know that Angel also tried to kill her but he had a gypsy curse - it wasn't his fault, where as I do agree that if Buffy met "William the bloody" and not "Spike" then she would have fallen for him... Buffy and Angel always fought and were so immature with each other, he treated her like a child and she whines a lot with him. I never found what was so amazing about their love, I always found it a little weird. He was watching her before she was The Slayer and that's a bit creepy. Also, saying you saw someone's heart isn't something that should be interpreted as "cute" given the circumstances they were in. I totally and absolutely respect your choices if you ship Bangel, I'm just saying I don't. It's a matter of opinion right? and there is no right or wrong opinion! :-) With Riley, I didn't find them so bad to be honest, only towards the end. He was angry with Buffy for being stronger, but she can't help that! Slayer, hello? In complete honesty, I ship Spuffy for so many reasons. Spike started out as an evil vampire but managed to grow on Buff by the end. They went through many stages in their relationship. His obsession is season five, their sexual one in season six and finally developing into something beautiful in season seven. I always saw a connection between them that I found amazing. Of course he was a soulless vampire until the final season, but think of all the things he did while he didn't have one! In season six he tried to rape her, but he stopped when she kicked him off. If it was Angelus, he would've gone through with it. You cannot compare Spike to Angelus or Riley. Spike has his flaws and so does Buffy, but he seems to be the only one who can truly accept and love her for who she is.
