Carrie Underwood will play Maria von Trapp in a live adaptation of The Sound of Music, set to air on NBC December 5. The country music super star recently moved to NYC to put her nose to the grindstone for the production. According to Carrie there is a bit of a learning curve and it’s been a tough process for her. The hardest part? Learning lines!

Carrie told E!, “I’ve never had to memorize lines before. I’ve never had to really buckle down.”

Carrie has also been very quick to point out that this is the musical version so it will differ from the film.
