Ratings: Vampire Diaries Ties Demo Low, Draws Smallest Audience Ever 

Is it really wrong of me to feel smug right now?
Read the comments that accompanied the article and most of them agree that the show has lost the plot, the point, and its heart.

no hun, you have every right too! if they had kept delena, this show would thriving right about now. and i cant believe that bonnie just left matt, elena would NEVER have done that!. i dont know if could stomach damon being with that bitch bonnie..., the writers need to end the show, before it looses all its viewers.

The story has always been repetitive and also started this season with almost everyone going after a supernatural stone again, but it did that even more heavily lately with Stefan’s body being taken over, so that Paul could again play a more interesting character, before Bonnie got close to dying again without ever vanishing for good. Everybody worked on saving her, but the crap about the Salvatore family issues, the dealing with the heretics and the storylines about the Defan brother connection before were at least interesting to a certain degree. And the “bad Damon/ bad Enzo/ Denzo bromance” of next season seems more promising again, especially because it is a supernatural condition that isn’t their fault.
Always boring Bonnie had for most of S7 just been around somehow with not much of a story for herself, while she is forced into a big role as the new huntress, what doesn’t work out with her uninteresting character. So, the ratings drop even more, what is good for our cause, what should support the actors in deciding to leave the show, and what underlines what is wanted by the audience; because an episode isn’t known before it airs, the ratings reflect what people think about the episodes before, and those “all fight for Bonnie” ones were even more stupid than the storylines before that. The episode in question actually had great Delena parts with wonderful DE memories, what couldn’t be known before it was aired, and it was higher voted for than the boring “quest for Bonnie” ones – in the fan ratings that I saw.
But it is in general especially bad for the last episodes of a season to have heavily dropping numbers of viewers, when the ratings usually are higher at the beginning and at the end of a season. And after already losing others before Elena left and with Caroline parting now [Or doesn’t she?], they also got lost of the new female characters (Lily, heretics, huntress Rayna), so that they have only uninteresting Bonnie left who has never behaved very female. Kat Graham looks otherwise much more like a woman, while Bonnie’s cut hair, thin and mostly hidden body shape, clothes, styling, behaviour etc. are not very female, what was even underlined by a past version of her being shown (in her subconsciousness) with long hair and a cheerleading outfit.
