“The Vampire Diaries” Season 8 still has no confirmed air date. However, there is one sure date that fans of the show can look forward to: July 23. This is the day of San Diego Comic Con, which the cast of the show has annually attended. Particularly, this year’s might be interesting as Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder may attend. Should this happen, this will be the two’s first appearance together since Dobrev left “The Vampire Diaries.”

It is no secret that “The Vampire Diaries” has experienced a drop in views since Dobrev’s departure. Whether the two are directly related cannot be proven at this point. Nevertheless, the team behind the series is hopeful that the numbers will rise again once Dobrev makes her way back into the small screen.

However, Dobrev is expected to make an appearance prior to Season 8, at the SDCC, this July 23rd, at 11am PST, as The Christian Times reports.

This means that the highly anticipated reunion between Dobrev and her ex-boyfriend and co-star Somerhalder will happen sooner than expected.

Dobrev and Somerhalder will be joined by other cast members like Paul Wesley, Kat Graham, and Zach Roerig. “The Vampire Diaries” showrunner Julie Plec will be in attendance as well. Even more exciting, is that spoilers are expected to be released at the session. The session is also expected to have a question and answer round. This portion alone will possibly give fans a good oversight of the upcoming season.

Dobrev is expected to return on “The Vampire Diaries” as an entirely new character. Instead of reviving either Elena or Kathryn, Dobrev may sink her teeth into the character of Sybil instead. Not much is known of the character, except that Sybil is a very powerful immortal. In fact, she is powerful enough to control those around her. Because Dobrev is returning, it is expected that Sybil will cloak herself as Elena.

This theory is highly likely, as fans of the series got a teaser in last season’s finale. In the finale, fans heard Dobrev’s voice call out Somerhalder’s Damon Salvatore.
