In California it is illegal to sell pop on public school campuses. My school's vending machines used to sell Coca-Cola, Mr. Pibb, Sprite, and even Coca-Cola's energy drink Vault. The vending machines now sell Powerade, juice, and water. Sales have remained steady.

I think it's a fine idea. Freshman are annoying enough without the excess sugar and caffeine.

I hate it that people are trying to do this. We are suppose to be growing up and being more responsible, and yet the school boards still thinks that we aren't responsible enough to choose what we want to drink at lunch. It sickens me.

I think we get a lot of it outside school, and it'll just be too much to have it at school aswell.

why can't they have a few options of fizzy drinks, fruit drinks, smoothies a and water like they at our college
that way people can chose what they want
i think maybe younger kids in younger school shouldn't have the option but that's completley different

They got rid of it in my old school, and while we all had water, the rush to get Coke and Lucozade to keep us going through three intense Leaving Cert double classes was unbelievable.

I think they should sell LESS of it. We have the same problem with food in our cafeteria, meaning that they sell a LOT of fried meaty stuff on soft buns, and they had one tiny plate with two apples and a banana and some healthy sandwiches (but they don't taste that good). Ofcourse everyone buys the unhealthy stuff then, since it's cheaper and tastier. I'm really glad that they started giving us more options, so instead of chocolate I can now buy fruit yoghurt.

I don't think you should forbid schools to sell fizzy drinks, but I think you should have some healthy options as well (preferably more healthy food and drinks than unhealthy ones).
I personally only drink water, so I'm happy if they have a machine with fresh water :)

i agree with Lunaste. & they should be aloud bring there own also. There should be a better choice of healthy food & drink rather than a ban on Fizzy drinks etc. I hate the idea of Prohibition (it didn't work anyway) heh

I meant to respond to this last night. I think schools should sell healthier drinks, alongside pop drinks. It gives kids the choice, and sometimes you just really, really crave a soda.

Or, in short, I agree with Lunaste and Quiznark. But I chose yes because I agree with STILL selling fizzy drinks.

in middle schools and elementry however, it's different. in my middle school kids are addicted to the vending machine. i don't want to think what'll happen to the pop machines. kids love to drink the flavoured water. hopefully in high school you'll have the matureity to not go crazy. with common sense, you should drink your milk and water etc.

but if ur addicted to pop and can't function without it then you have some issues. like ineedcoffee said. and i agree, they should have also choices like gatorade, propel, smoothies. i almost want to pick no on this one.

plus, it helps the schools economy :D

i drink it during school but when i get home i don't drink it often. I thought it was just a "oh i like the taste" but i stopped drinking it in holidays and realised i had no energy and could barely get out of bed for a few hours without getting tired :\ And there's worse stuff, if you get rid of soft drink you have to get rid of all fatty foods, etc.

No. Its extremely unhealthy and promotes a bad lifestyle. If you want to ruin your health by all means, do it on your own time. Don't dangle it in front of kids. Besies I think its sickening how schools get paid to keep this Absolute crap inside their cafeterias.

want to teach responsibility? How about the adults show some by not exchanging welfare of students in exchange for money.

Might seem extreme, but any reasonable person knows Soda is bad for you. Nothing good can come from drinking it. And while i'm all for people's rights to be idiots, lets not make it an easy path.

Mobile phones are bad for you...microwaves are bad for you...the sun is bad for you...playing video games is bad for you...watching tv is bad for you...using the computer is bad for you...candy is bad for you ;) it's about the same badness as soda can do for you, both sugary and ready to rot your teeth

Oh and i don't think you (Zerstoren) needed to call people that like soda idiots as more than half the people that have voted on this said yes to it...

Just because a lot of people agree on something doesn'tmake it right ;)

I don't understand why people insist on destroying themselves with things like soda, junk food, smoking, alcohol and and other silly things when they *know* there is no benefit other than a small pleasure that fades too quickly for a price too steep. Where is the willpower?

And no, the sun, tv, and video games do not destroy your body. Its the lack of exercise or irresponsibility when it comes to sunscreen that does the harm.

Meh, our school has a huge variety of drinks, including pop. It seems that everything sells evenly enough. They also made the price higher for pop while water/juice/health drinks are all a little bit lower. I guess its to discourage the students from buying sugary drinks.

If we get fat and unhealthy, it/s our own damn fault! We should be allowed to make that choice.

Middle school, I can understand. However, high school? I think they are mature enough to make a simple drink choice. Plus, I know I would not have survived high school without caffeine to keep me going!

We had our school board do this to us when I was in high school. We had this big protest and some genius (and I don't mean this literally) pointed out that their reasoning for stopping the sale of pop (they were trying to make us "healthier") would not work as they were still giving us the same nasty, fatty, foods for lunch. They hadn't changed the menu at all. If this is the case, then, no, they should keep the pop.

Sodapop isn't completely unheathly. It's certainly not great to have five times a day, but really, there's nothing I see that would be considered illegal about Cokes. Sometimes, a heathly choice is great, but there are days where we really need a soda, perhaps because we crave one, or we just need a little caffeine in our system to wake us up.

The only problem might be is that soda can go flat in a few hours, probably less, unless you drink it quickly, and many classes won't even let you drink it. Of course, there's always in between classes. So, I don't why schools would prohibit selling them. They could bring their own, but ones in school are probably right from the fridge or a cooler, better than one that was last in the fridge thirty minutes ago.

Personally, I couldn't get through the school day without soda for medical reasons.
I needed it to keep my blood sugar up and avoid passing out. Sugar free apple juice didn't usually make the cut.

Why the heck not? I personally don't like the fact that high schools have become so obsessed with the whole soda thing. Sure it has sugar and stuff, but just drinking some at school isn't going to cause kids to drop dead during the school day. I mean, it's good that they care about nutrition, but now they're just nutrition nazis. There are kids who shouldn't drink soda and it's not the healthiest thing in the world, but that doesn't mean that you have to ban it for everyone. I don't like the government's "one size fits all" bullcrap. Let me eat or drink what I want!
