I read somewhere that the death card is only figurative,meaning that a person is going to go through a dramatic transformation или change,a new beginning,or that someone is going through some major issues that are going to be solved.

I know it sounds like bullhonkey,but think about it:Clare's parents and their troubles.There may be a possible change with them that she fears,like divorce.Or Eli has some personal problems that haven't been revealed yet,and he needs to get over them to дата Clare или something.Plus he didn't look all that surprised when Clare flipped up the card,while she looked shocked.Maybe it's symbolism,that Eli is going to introduce Clare to a lot of new things,causing her to make personal sacrifices and let herself change?
