A lot of people on Fanpop say that Merida is selfish and not not a good role model. Personally, I think that is far from the truth.

Merida wasn't being totally selfish when she went to the witch. Impulsive, yes. Her mind was clouded by all the emotion she felt and acted before she thought things through. When she asked for a potion that would change her mother, I think she wanted something to change her mothers MIND. Not her personality.
I think Merida is actually quite selfless. When her plan to change her mother went awry, she didn't even hesitate to help her mom. She went totally out of her way to teach her mom to be a медведь and never left her side.

The biggest thing Merida haters forget is how selfless Merida was was when she volunteered to marry one of the suitors when she realized how bad things had become. She saw that her freedom was not worth all this fighting and hate between the clans and that she would do anything to repair it.

All in all, I believe that Merida may have made one bad decision but proved herself by doing everything she possibly could to fix things, even if it meant sacrificing her freedom, which she eventually got to keep anyways. Her actions were very brave.

egyptprincess7 Not only that but Merida admitted to her mistakes toward the end of the movie and realized that her mother WAS and IS there for her. She was able to develop as the movie went on. Not only that but she and her mother had a miscommunication. They both wanted each other to LISTEN. Merida should have been clear when she asked the witch for a potion to change her mom.

Silverrose1991 While I love Merida, she is certainly not selfless. She doesn't want to take any responsabilities and should be more grateful for the freedom she has: if she was of lower birth (servant, peasant, etc) she would have even less. But overall I agree: Merida is amazing!

Why I Like Shan Yu

Some people say he's forgettable but I think people automatically dismiss him just because he's not dramatic, theatrical and "hammy" like other Дисней villains. I personally think he's pretty badass and ruthless.
