Why the "you can't marry a man Ты just met" thing bothers people

The infamous line that annoys a lot of Дисней fans, including myself. I felt like I should just give an FYI as to why exactly this whole "thing" in Холодное сердце bothers me, because I think some people are unclear. Plus, I felt like Письмо an article, so why not?

1. Anna's motivation is pulled out of nowhere.
In writing, there's the thing called set up and payoff. Throughout the whole first sequence of the film, which is essentially Anna's entire childhood, not one instance indicates that Anna would be a romantic. Her motivation is so specific, bizarre and contrived. I know some people are like "it makes sense that she'd want a companion". Yeah but that specific type of companionship? No, it makes no sense that she'd specifically want a "beautiful stranger tall and fair".

If the writers gave a crap, Anna's main desires would be to a) confront Elsa and try to understand why she's been shut out for so long and b) just experience the outside world in general, not this tacked on romance nonsense. When Cinderella, Jasmine, and Rapunzel first set foot out of their isolation, Любовь was the farthest thing from their minds (it would come later but it wasn't the focus) they were too busy enjoying the freedom they've been deprived of their whole lives, because they were written like freaking normal people.

или if the writers really gave a crap they would have at least tried to set up her motivation properly. All they had to do was write a quick ten-second scene early in the movie where Anna's Чтение a romance novel или romantic fairytale, that's it. At least then it wouldn't be such a bizarre ass-pull on the writers part.

2. It's extremely heavy-handed and annoying.
As Cheshire Cat Studios сказал(-а) in their Холодное сердце analysis "[Frozen] was so desperate to let us know what it was doing". Cue Anna going on and on about how "it's true love" in response to both Elsa and Kristoff saying "you can't marry a man Ты just met". (no crap Sherlock) This whole aspect of the film could have easily been cut out. Hell, Hans could still be the fake-out Любовь interest without all this obnoxious dialogue.

But of course, the writers had an agenda to push. It's just like Belle's inventing skills in the 2017 remake. It has no impact on the plot, no impact on the main relationship (Belle/Beast) and it's only shoehorned into the film only once and never brought up again. In Frozen, it's shoehorned multiple times rather than once but it still has no real importance to the в общем и целом, общая narrative. In fact, Anna's still implied to "live happily ever after"....with a man she just met. (Kristoff) If they really wanted to drive the message Главная then Anna would have just stayed single, but like i said, the writers don't truly give a crap.

3. It mocks and misrepresents the older DP films.
Дисней Фаны have explained endlessly why this aspect bothers them, we won't get into it here.

So yeah, just thought I'd clarify why it irritates me as well as other people, it's fundamentally bad character Письмо and it's annoyingly and condescendingly "in your face". Honestly, I kinda feel bad because the revival era gets so much flak already. lmao

BB2010 Yeah before I watched the movie again I kept saying it was just common sense not to marry someone they just met but after watching the movie again recently I realized that it wasn't even necessary just like Anna and Hans getting engaged out of nowhere wasn't necessary. Fans can say that she was alone her whole life but so was Elsa she wasn't going to marry the first guy she met and Rapunzel didn't say yes to marrying Eugene for years and she was more alone than Anna was. It did feel like the writers were trying to mock the past princesses for marrying their romantic interests quickly despite the fact that 1. None of the princesses ever actually married someone after only one day except maybe Cinderella but that brings us to... 2. Most of these movies are supposed to be fairy tales and most of them end with "and they get married and live happily ever after." Even Ariel, who in her original story freaking [i]dies[/i] ends up with her true love and gets married. 3. We actually see most of these couples getting to know each other or proving their love for each other. And even though we don't see Snow White and Cinderella having conversations with their princes, once again, their movies are based on fairy tales that tell this exact story and have been beloved by people for several years. Heck, most of the time these stories are loved so much because Disney brought these stories to life on the big screen and kids grew up with them. I still kinda like the line "you can't marry a man you just met" because like Enchanted, it feels like a Disney line making fun of Disney but then again, it's a line that is most likely insulting the princesses in not a fun way Enchanted did. Fans may not like Enchanted because it was a Disney movie making fun of princesses but that's the point and it's making fun in a sweet and funny way. I mean, for crying out loud you got Jodi Benson, Ariel's voice actor, in an office with a fish tank with Part of Your World playing in the background. That's adorable and funny!

wavesurf Never liked that line "You can't marry a man you just met." It made me think Elsa was a hypocrite, and she [i]is[/i] ( because, like Anna, Elsa has never experienced romantic love, [i]either,[/i] and yet she feels totally free to pass judgment on her sister!) I still hate Frozen for all of its crappy writing from Jennifer Lee, and Lee's "condescending pretentiousness" which made this whole MESS a collective annoyance to the gazillionth degree. Also, it didn't help that the Ultra-feminists glommed onto this movie and "preached" its "moral" about "romance is bad"---- which RUINED the good feels I had for Disney and the Revival Era. I also don't like Enchanted at all, either. I don't really like when Disney does satire. They fall flat on their faces. Oh, well.

BB2010 ^here’s a difference between Frozen and Enchanted. While in both movies the marrying someone after knowing each other for one day comes up in both movies, the way it’s talked about is different. Kristoff at least brought up a good point about strangers but this topic still was unnecessary and Anna was treated like an idiot when all she wanted was to be with someone after being alone her whole life. With Giselle she sang about true loves kiss and was then excited to marry Prince Edward after they just met. Later Robert asked her about it he does ask about how she could love someone she doesn't know and while he does act similar to Elsa we find out it's because the woman he loved just up and left him and their daughter so there is at least a somewhat good reason as to why he would question something like that and why he doesn't encourage his daughter to believe in fairy tales. He just doesn't want to get hurt again and he doesn't want her daughter to get hurt the same way he did Idk it's been a few years since I watched Enchanted so maybe the jokes won't hold up as well as they did when I was younger. It'll probably be like Frozen where I loved it at first but then get bored with it

wavesurf ^ You probably won't know how you feel about it today vs. when you were younger, until you've re-watched it. I do agree that there seems to have been more of a nuanced reason for Robert to be so jaded about love, since he had a tough romantic experience. But there simply wasn't a "build-up" of a tough romantic experience for either Elsa or Kristoff, to back up the generalized "falling-in-love-too-fast-is-wrong" statements in Frozen.

BB2010 ^Exactly. We barely knew Kristoff at the time so while he did have a point he kept acting like he knew better because of the trolls despite the fact they try to marry him and Anna off without knowing anything about her and while knowing she was engaged to someone else. And while Elsa did mean well this talk could have gone a lot better

JNTA1234 ^Snow White's motivation of wanting companionship was introduced the minute she was introduced on screen and all she wanted was "the one" not specifically a man to have romance, unlike Anna. Anna's ENTIRE childhood was played out on screen and not once did it ever hint at her wanting romance. It doesn't make sense that she'd want romantic love all of a sudden, it's too specific and weird. Plus, she still had her parents up until their deaths and the castle staff walking around, so she's just about as isolated as Jasmine. She should want a companion and just general freedom, like Jasmine ("I never had any real friends") but Anna takes it a bit too far. If she had just said "what if I meet the one" full stop (and "the one" could be a friend, a love interest, a pet etc) that would be fine but no, she randomly specifically wants a handsome man. Elsa's rejection drives Anna into spefically wanting romace? That's a bit of a stretch to be honest. If you have to fill in the blanks this much, there's a chance the writers just aren't doing their job properly. If something feels forced and tacked on, then it probably is.

Toonsgirl27 I agree with this article! I also felt that Anna's desire for romance came out of nowhere. It would have make sense if the movie showed that Anna wanted love because she felt that if she couldn't get love from her family-then she might get it from someone else.
