I think they'd bond over wanting to be free from their parents expectations and over wanting their own life. Or Mulan, obviously.

I don't think Mulan would be interesting for Merida because she had an entirely different mentality. Mulan greatly respected traditions and was desperate to bring the honor to her family, at least in the beginning of the movie and while she grew a lot by the end I still don't think she got over that desire completely (that's why she was desperate to make her father proud of her when she showed him the medals of honor from the Emperior). Merida on the other hand hardly even cares about the traditions - she even ends up rebelling against them, which is something Mulan would never do just because she wouldn't want to get married (she even went to a matchmaker, willing to marry anyone she picks for her in order to not fail the tradition and bring the honor to her family). Ariel on the other hand was rebellious like Merida and I can see them having loads of fun together because they're both very adventurous.

They have the same temper, they both won't marry by force, they both hate being princesses, they both want to go past the palace walls, they're both rebellious, come on!!!! Mulan is more noble than both of them and she would marry someone to the honor of her family....right? Ariel.....is MUCH nicer then both of the princesses...yes a drama-queen, but you get what I mean.

Stop shoeing Mulan just because they look like having this in common, i say Rapunzel Ariel or Jasmine.

I don't think it's about having common attitudes, but rather common interests.

Merida goes out exploring the wilderness for fun, and it's the only time she really enjoys. Pocahontas also goes out exploring the wilderness for fun. Merida and Pocahontas would hang out together in the wilderness all the time.

The only other one who explores around for fun is Ariel, but I think Ariel would rather explore a city full of human stuff than the wilderness.

Rapunzel would be merida's compliment perfectly, the girly girl and tomboy, off having adventures, with merida fighting bad guys and rapunzel swinging them away on her hair lol
