Seriously. and it would be more tolerable if the movie had done a better job showing these as flaws (like they did with Anna, who we're clearly supposed to see as more flawed and being the in the wrong, not Elsa). She also is rather arrogant- Anna was right, she doesn't know anything about love either. Then she "lets go" of her duty as queen and stops caring about what happens to her people and kingdom, then refuses to try to fix what she did. (Sorry, it probably sounds like i hate Elsa, but I don't!)

However, what annoys me the most isn't her but the hype surrounding her and the fact that her young fans are obsessed with using her (very overplayed) theme song as some kind of "excuse" for dropping responsibility and acting their age. Those many, many, many Disney confessions are just ridiculous.

Coming from a person with anxiety, yes she is barely smarter than Anna.
I like her more than I used to though.

I've battled with depression, anxiety, and overcoming major flaws that society will not accept (Aspergers, social awkwardness) my whole life. As such, I find her complete unwillingness to TRY to face her problems or try a new approach to dealing with them rather irritating.

I also get tired of the usual "but she has depression and/or anxiety" or "was oversheltered/abused by her parents her whole life" as an EXCUSE for her cowardice, problem-avoidance, self-berating, etc. I get that she has emotional problems that she can't magically get together. (Actually, she does by the end, but that's beside the point.) My problem is she doesn't TRY. She doesn't TRY to face her fears, face her problems, say "I'm scared, but there are greater things at stake" or "I'm scared, but there are people/things more important than me." If she tried and still lapsed, I could respect her a heck of a lot more than just saying "I'm scared, therefore I need to repress/shut out/run away at all costs."

^^ She was a Queen. How could she rule if people feared her?

Oh, hey! My sister and others knew about my ice power, so I just ran away and created and eternal winter to my kingdom that will kill my people. Then, when my beloved sister convinced me to return and fix this problem, I just said, 'do I look care?' and FROZE HER HEART!!! After I found out that the only thing that I care about in this world was dead because of me (my power actually, so hands up), I don't care if there was a person behind me trying to kill me. Let it go. Hahahaha Sorry... XP

manu: Quite easily. People don't have to like you to be a ruler, people just have to obey you. If it comes from liking you, respecting you, or fearing you, the result is the same.

However, the narrative also makes it clear her people didn't necessarily start to fear her until she started to fear herself. She didn't reveal her powers until she let her emotions control her, causing her ice powers to erupt, and when the Duke of Weaseltown starts fear-mongering by constantly shouting "Sorcery!" and "Monster!" Even then, her people are shown to be wary around her, but their fear doesn't increase until she gives it reason to increase, like making the fountain freeze into a sinister looking claws reaching for them, or nearly blasting the Duke with her powers, or acting like a madwoman on the loose.

If she had handled the situation with confidence and poise - assured them that she had powers but she controlled them, would never hurt anyone with them, could do nice things like create snowballs and pretty flurries and iceskating rinks, etc - their wariness could have been put at ease and they could have gone on board with it too. Like how we see at the end.

But no. Elsa was COMPLETELY RULED by her terror. She let it control every aspect of her life, then created a self-fulfilling prophecy of fearing she would hurt people with her magic, hurting people with her magic because her fear kept her from controlling it, and then causing people to fear her on account of her magic hurting them. If she had TRIED to stand up to her fear, or step back and think "Complete suppression hasn't worked in the 13 or so years I've tried it, so maybe I should try something different. Maybe if I tried this..." it would have been different.

Again, it all comes back to her fear and anxiety. I don't fault her for feeling the way she does, but I do for how she chooses to act on it. How she chooses to let it control her instead of trying to stand up to it or try a new way of dealing with it.
