She's gorgeous, she has an amazing voice, and is a talented actress. As long as they give her red hair, I won't complain... Until I see the movie, that is lol. I hope this movie has color-blind casting like in the Cinderella movie starring Brandy Norwood and Whitney Houston.

Eh. I just don't feel enthusiastic about this remake at all. Same with Mulan.

None of the above. I tend to not judge casting until I have actually seen the actor in question in the role.

Not 100% sold yet, but willing to give her a chance. I think she could do a very good job.

@Disneyotaku I'm sure she could just get her hair dyed red, though I hope it won't look so obviously fake.

@BB2010 not offense but that is like saying you want a a withe Pocahontas or Tiana in their future remakes.

Skin color isn’t the same as hair color though. There’s been white actors playing redheads when they were actually blondes or brunettes for a long time and there hasn’t been too many complaints about that

Also that petition says “Why can Ariel not stay red headed, blue eyed white girl?’ and tbh that raises some red flags

NO!!!!!! NNONONONO WHY ? :(
ariel was my hero when I was a child. i look like her :(
disney took from me
they did not think of fans who had a hero and had an example!!!!!
if Tiana were white, they would change immediately and it would be racism
Sorry but ariel ARIEL WHY??? she a hero and white, red hair, blue eyes.

She is not ariel! Tiana, moanna, pocahontas , new princess: OKEY! SHE cute, and amazing voice! <3

I don't support this, I'm sorry :/

Sorry my very bad english !!!! ^^"

She's adorable but yeah, Disney just as usual having a poor understanding of representation while showing their usual thirst for money by cashing off a classic. At some point they just need to stop. Do something original. For goodness sake, stop being so obsessed with money and being scared to take risks and just do some lesser known for non European fairy tales already! That would be amazing and Moana proved audiences CAN and WILL like stuff from other cultures, they just might need to tweak it a bit fot American audiences to relate to.

And no, that doesn't raise red flags. I feel a bit sorry for this girl because no matter how good an Ariel she is, she'll probably always be known as "black Ariel" all because Disney would rather change a pre-existing character than just make something new entirely (this is why Miles Morales is a popular character but female Thor didn't do so well).

For some people she’ll probably be referred to as black Ariel but I know a lot of people, both irl and online, who are stoked about this. What I can’t wrap my head around this is when Kristen Dunst played Mary Jane there wasn’t an uproar despite the fact she was a redhead playing a blonde but suddenly there’s a problem because some people don’t like she’s not a redhead. And then people compare it to casting a white person to play Pocahontas or Tiana when that really has nothing to do with this. If Pocahontas or Tiana we’re played by white people then of course that’s an issue because their stories revolves around their races and cultures, Ariel is just a mermaid, a fictional creature, it literally doesn’t make a difference what skin color she is

Oh please….you all need to grow up. There have been a LOT of adaptations of The Little Mermaid, and every single version of her looks different. blonde, blue-haired, you name it. Who the hell cares what kind of skin colour a fictional species has?

The only thing which truly counts regarding Ariel is the voice. And guess what, this time around they cast someone who can actually sing! No autotune this time around.

They don't even have to colour her hair if you ask me, but if they do, it won't look more or less fake no matter what skin colour the actress has. Because Ariel's hair colour is extremely unnatural.

Oh and that stupid petition: Yeah, don't buy it. Lately Anti-SJWs have become sneaky. "Oh, we are not against Captain Marvel at all, but we will nevertheless scream bloody murder under the pretence that it is just about the "right" kind of representation". Yeah, right. Sign this BS petition and it won't change ANYTHING, but you will encourage racists and sexists to carry on with their stupid pot stirring.

Swanpride: Because a huge fuss would be made if the races were reversed?

Also, consider this. Everyone loves the Brandi Cinderella. The races don't bother people because 1) it was a genuinely good movie and 2) she's not an adaptation of a specific Cinderella who is already established as looking a certain way. Imagine if we made Tiana white. Her story is based on a European tale after all.

Nobody needs to "grow up" for having a different opinion. It's not even a huge deal. But it's obvious when Disney is being lazy and trying to meet a quota instead of doing better representation (COUGH live action PATF, actual African folklore adaptations). It's also obvious why some fans are defending it. Some are actually interested and I respect that (I kind of am too) but some are just afraid they'll be called racist if they don't.

I actually LOVE Halle Bailey and I know whatever issue I have with this remake it won't be because of her but I can understand why if this Little Mermaid is based on the one named Ariel, they'd prefer if she looked like Ariel. I think Halle would do great but I'd still prefer a red-haired white actress playing the role.

I don't care how much race plays a role in the story or representation this and that. I prefer characters to maintain their image, and that goes for everybody. I'm not gonna outrage about it, it's just my personal preference.
