After rewatch Pocahontas and Sleeping Beauty. I have to agree that SB is a little bit lacking at points and the color changing do throw you off a lot.

I'll have to stick with the unpopular opinion here: I still love Sleeping Beauty's animation. Anyway, this one is very good, but not as good as the others.

Compared to the rest... this or Tangled should go this round.

Can I just seriously copy and paste KataraLover's paragraph in his best animation article? Really, anything that KataraLover says regarding this I agree. It's just dull, too detailed to the point where it looks cheesy when you add the characters, and just plain boring!

Again, I think it pales in comparison to the others.

I know that a lot of people love this animation but honestly the fact that so many consider this the best Disney Princess animation makes me sick. The animation is absolutely bland and dull. The colors are so dull and don't have that Disney feel because it's so boring looking. The background are detailed but they're too detailed, they look so fake. When you have the characters moving around it just looks out of place because it doesn't look natural like it does with the other films. The character animation looks weird. I mean the characters have realistic designs but it looks weird when they have black eyes and pink skin. Why do they have pink skin? Does no one else notice this? Does it not bother anyone else? Plus they totally messed up the colors on Aurora, she supposed to have golden hair and red lips but instead her lips are colorless and her hair is bleach blonde. Her hair even changes colors, sometimes it's gold like it's supposed to be, most of the time it's bleach blonde, sometimes it's ugly light green, and sometimes even a weird shade of grey. Plus her eyes always change colors: black, blue, purple, brown. MAKE UP YOUR MIND ANIMATORS! The only character who looks right is Maleficent and her minions but that's because they're not human! Plus some things are really cheesy, just as when Maleficent says "No! It cannot be" and transported, that wasn't very impressive. Plus when Phillip waves his sword around he acts like a kid just swinging it around like a monkey instead of a sword fight. It has it's impressive moments like anything involving Maleficent (minus that one part), when Aurora is a painting, and during the Gifts song. If the rest of the movie was like this we'd have a beautiful movie but it's just so bland, dull, and kind of cheesy.

And that folks is why I think SB doesn't have great animation like people say.

^Well, I didn't read your comment, since I already read KataraLover's article. But I want to say that I love Sleeping Beauty's animation not so much because of the elaborate backgrounds (though I love then) but because of how fluid and realistic are the characters' movements. And of course, I think they fit perfectly with the art style of the movie.

If you have a decent copy of the movie, Sleeping Beauty is not dark at all. The colour palette is not super-bright (and bright colours are not a sign of quality, btw), but the backgrounds are clearly to see and unbelievable detailed, and not just in the wood scenes. There are rich tapestries, complicated wood carvings and patterns everywhere. You can even see the texture on the stone of Maleficent's castles. The movement of the characters is very fluent (there is a reason Aurora is still the most graceful princess in the line-up), and the whole thing looks basically like a moving painting.

I didn't read the article of KataraLover, because I really don't need to, I can imagine that he ripped into Sleeping Beauty again. I am really not caring for the opinion of someone who honestly claims the there are direct-to-video sequels which have better animation than any of the Disney Princess movies, never mind Sleeping Beauty, the Picasso under the animated movies (it is not just the DP movie with the most impressive animation, it is the movie with the most impressive animation period). Either way...I think it is time for TPATF to go. The animation is beautiful, fluent, certainly the best part of the movie and even for Disney Top Notch. But compared to the other three movies on the list, it is not particular revolutionary (Tangled) or unusual (Pocahontas) . Neither is it a truly unique masterpiece which still stands unrivalled after 55 years (Sleeping Beauty).

I just find it to be very flat and boring. Some of the backgrounds are nice, but nothing extraordinary because they look as if they are not authentic. It is a quite plain background. I wish I had joined Fanpop sooner so I could have participated!

Swanpride perhaps if you'd get off your high horse and get over the fact I think some Disney sequels have better animation than other Disney movies, including your so called "Picasso" you'd see there are different opinions. You're a very cynical person and a snob. Just because something is a direct-to-video sequel doesn't automatically make it bad. You contradict yourself, you're arrogant, a hypocrite, and are ignorant. Don't even bother to comment back because you'll just be wasting both of our time because I will not respond back after this, especially to have have my opinion insulted by a Nostalgia Chick wannabe.

The last thing I have to say is whoever did that picture of Tangled is FANTASTIC! Now that is an actual work of art, unlike Sleeping Beauty.

Looking at the pic in original size, it's obvious, but really well done. The scene seems to be a fav of the fanartists, I have seen it done multiple times already.

Why are we having this argument anyway, everybody? It's all a a matter of opinion. KataraLover hates SB's animation, Swanpride loves it. It's ok! People have different opinions! Gosh!

Oh my gosh KataraLover. There are some arrogant people who contradicts themselves here, but Swanpride is not one of them. While I do find it weird to think a DP sequel film has better animation than the WDAS films. To each their own. And Swanpride actually hates Nostalgia Chick. Neither of you are bad people, but holy crap. This has gotta be the worst fun countdown Princecatcher93 ever had to deal with.

Totally agree with everything in Swanpride's first comment, especially that the animation (the colors especially) look totally different in motion than in the screencaps. That SB review is also completely amazing.
Disney's House Style, and while the House Style is a gorgeous style, it is also nothing new or exciting, which we got out of SB and Pocahontas, and Tangled was a HUGE technological achievement. Not to mention having top-notch animation anyway. All of these are so beautifully and perfectly animated, but PATF is the least special.

Okay this is all going way too far. Jayden-G First I would like to say I didn't say anything hateful before Swanpride was insulting my taste, I was just allowing shanyuisboss to basically sum up how she felt by copying and pasting something from my article. I had a right to insult her back, I hate the Nostalgia Chick but let's face it she's a lot like her. Anyway I just came back here because this is all getting out of hand and I'm going to end it because this isn't fair to princecatcher93 or to the other users involved so let's all move on from this and from now on try to avoid any fighting in the last few rounds and be mature about this. Can we all agree to do that?

Actually, I don't hate the Nostalgia Chick...sometimes she has some good thoughts in her vids. I specifically hate her stance towards Disney movies in general and Disney Princess movies especially, because she looks at them from a point of view of "feminism" which, yes, I consider not helpful when it comes to analysing those movies. (more about this here: link ). And knowing that she will look at all DP movies from this perspective, I don't think highly about her reviews about this specifically matter, because it tends to result in petty nit-picking (her Mulan review is a good example of it). But that doesn't mean that I have anything against her as a person, or that I don't think that she has a point concerning other topics. Just to clarify that.

Ooh, wonderful blog post Swanpride! I especially liked your point at the end about the way the princesses are portrayed.
