My parents sometimes yell at me and call me a "radical feminist". I'm not a radical feminist, but I don't think that should be an insult, so yeah.

I would take it as a compliment, were there no negative connotations behind it. Everytime I hear it it's a negative term, and it REALLY gets on my nerves.

^ Same here. It's like how people use the word "gay" as an insult. A few people I know just think feminists are annoying bitches who are up their own arse. All I can say is: WTF?

^ Well, people associate all of feminism with a vocal minority. That kind of thing is probably an aspect of every group with enough people, though.

Men who have stood up for their rights are remembered as brave and heroic in history and we have national holidays for them. No one would accuse Thomas Paine or George Washington or any of the founders of (my country) the U.S. as wanting equality and human rights because they hate women or because they're being 'annoying bastards' would they?? Why are women treated differently for just wanting basic human rights?

To me, Feminism is sexist as well, but I am all for equallity.

Yeah how is feminism sexist? I believe some feminists can be sexist, but how is someone that merely supports equality for woman (aka feminism) sexist?

Yeah, feminism is support for women. It often ignores men, not out of malice, but just a narrow focus. It's like how feeding the homeless does nothing for the cause of teaching children to read.

I try to somewhat understand people's being wary about feminism because after all it is another doctrine and I myself am a bit suspicious about doctrines in general. However, it irks me a little that when I voice my opinion on something I consider a valid problem with the position of women in the society, my female friends call me a feminist in an implied derogatory manner. Nobody has to agree with me, but why use something that is supposed to stand for a fight for the equality among sexes as an insult is beyond me.

But i have pride and respect in what i believe in, and if people are being ignorant they'll just have to put up with me not being there idea of "right".

If being a woman willing to want to be equal is an insult then they are ignorant but insults don't stop us in getting what we want in life.

I hear it used as an insult a lot, but mostly from people who let the media industry educate them! If they learned what feminism actually was maybe they'd calm down.
