Dave Goldblatt spent $20,000 to be \'Game of Thrones\' new Valyrian character

The price of being a character in George R.R. Martin\'s upcoming "A Song of Ice and Fire" novels cost $20,000, and Dave Goldblatt from San Francisco, Calif. is the man who payed up.

Martin offered the "Martyr" donation tier in his Prizeo charity campaign as a way to gain a big chunk of money to go to the Santa Fe charity The Food Depot and the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary. The payoff for donating $20,000 was to have a character named after you in a forthcoming novel, choose that character\'s occupation, and then have them get killed off in some "grisly" way.

Goldblatt, a 30-year-old Facebook product specialist, payed up to be immortalized in one of Martin\'s novels. He tells ABC News he wants Dave Goldblatt the "Game of Thrones" character to hail from Valyria, a previously unvisited country in the world of the series. "For whatever reason, I thought the Valyrians were cool. I\'m hoping in future books we get to see more of them," he says.

Two "Martyr" prizes were available: One for a man (Goldblatt) and one for a woman. The female character has also been claimed, though the purchaser chose to remain anonymous.

At press time, Martin raised over $375,000 and all of the high-price "Extra Rewards" have been claimed. Thirty-eight more days remain in the charitable fundraiser. "The response to our fund-raising campaign on Prizeo has been nothing less than mind-boggling," Martin writes on his blog. "You guys have made me very proud."
