spoilers; we may or may not be that good. Please proceed at your own risk.]
By now you know the dire wolf\'s out of the bag: Jon Snow is alive.
screamed it here, and we covered it here. But now what no one seems to agree on is
season 6, episode 2 "Home" aired, all anyone could talk about was Jon Snow\'s resurrection — his journey, which most considered far from over, would continue. The masses cheers, the spoilers spoiled, and the fans frolicked. In the heat of that excitement, we saw only what was in front of us — the magic of Melisandre — without delving too deeply into the details.
Since Sunday, a number of possibilities just plausible enough to cause doubt have made their home on the web. Let\'s talk about those.
Melisandre remains the most popular option. After all, didn\'t Jon regain life directly after her ceremony? Wasn\'t it her hands who washed his blood, her words that surrounded his body, seducing his spirit back to life? On the other hand...
Take a moment to recall Jon\'s resurrection scene: several moments after Melisandre "fails" and everyone leaves the room, Ghost seems to sense something. Jon only comes back after Ghost begins to fret. Now, while this behavior may have been as simple as a dog\'s realization that his dead owner\'s heart was beating once again, it seems coincidental that the camera panned to him several times throughout the scene; our attention was being drawn toward him. Why?
However, if Ghost was Jon\'s savior, why did he take so long to do the deed? Perhaps it required a combination of Melisandre\'s magic and Ghost\'s, or
Jon (as he does in George R.R. Martin\'s books) shares "brother" Bran\'s warg ability to inhabit the bodies of animals. Could Jon\'s spirit have been hanging to life via Ghost all along?
At the end of season 4, Bran meets the Three-eyed Raven, who tells him, “I have been
, and now I am what you see.” Clearly, this is a powerful individual.
At this point in the TV series, we know so little about the Raven it\'s maddening. Those who have read the novels, however, seem to agree that he is Brynden "Bloodraven" Rivers, who can conveniently include former Lord Commander of the Night\'s Watch in the list of
he has been. As a matter of fact, as tale has it, Bloodraven disappeared
Castle Black, just beyond the wall — never to be seen again.
Say neither Melisandre nor Ghost were the key to Jon Snow\'s resurrection: Could Ghost have been sensing an outside influence in the room?
