Loosing the only girl he loved...
He had to kill the only person that really trusted him (Dumbledore) upon Dumbledore's own request...
Finally, he died to protect Lily's son.
I'm about crying :(

I think James&Lily's story is not very different from Remus&Tonk's one. Both were murdered and couldn't bring their sons up. Almost the same happened to the Longbottoms, although they weren't murdered.

I'm actually a little surprised that people would find James and Lily's story sadder. I just don't see how that's possible. Snape had a miserable life practically since he was born.

At least James and Lily were happy together and with their son before they died!!!Snape never felt happiness:(

Severus gave up everything - and lost everything - for a woman who had never loved him. At least Lily and James had been happy.

Snape chose to live as a double agent. And James Potter was not his enemy, only his teenage rival.

^THANK YOU delamico. snape kinda chose the life he led. but the thought of being betrayed by your closest friend, someone youd trust with your life, is pretty devestating. and also not being able to raise their son. that sucks too. but the again, they did have a happy life together? hmm both are pretty bad. i just perfer james and lily haha

Snape didn't really have a chance to learn the proper choices. And with the childhood he had, I'm not surprised.

James and Lily dying so young, leaving Harry without parents is tragic, but I never wept like I did during "The Princes Tale" at ANY other moment in the series.

Really, just sitting here thinking about what he went through is difficult to take. What a devastatingly tearful life.

As I said before on an other spot,Snape refused to be on "Lily's side". He called her a mudblood for a start,joined the Death Eaters even though she gave him an actual lecture about it when they were in Hogwarts, joined them altough his "great love" despised them.
I think Snape chose his own fate,if he really loved Lily so much,he would have sacrificed himself for her before she died.
I can not say Snape wasn't sorry for what he did. I find both of these cases sad,I'm just saying that Snape,could have changed his fate if he tried.
I am not mocking anyone, especially not Snape.
I am not saying Lily wasn't a bit cruel to him, though, that's not what he deserved, but calling your best friend (and potential something-more) mudblood,and betraying her later isn't very nice, isn't it?

But I still have some respect for Snape left because of his intention to save Harry's life and make up for his crimes by being a double agent, risking his life for the sake of good. That's all.

I feel bad for snape and all but he kind of brought it on himself he's the one who went so far into the dark arts that he drove away the person he cared most about it is especially unforunate that he drove her into his enemy's arms but if he hadn't been on the voldemorts side then this probably wouldn't have happened and honestly i believe that if voldemort had gone after the longbottoms instead of lily he would still be on the dark side following voldemort so in that respect he kind of sickens me. James and Lily always fought against Voldemort James may have been nothing more than a bully when he was younger but he grew out of it and he wasn't a bad person he did save snapes life after all and joined the order I mean look what dumbledore did when he was younger they both realized their errors and grew up into great people james and Lily were betrayed by someone they trusted someone they probably would have died for themselves. They were murdered just after they had their son they would never get to know him and I think that's just awful. That's not to say I don't respect Snape I mean he did sacrifice a lot in order to save Harry for Lily but I don't believe that he didn't to a certain extent deserve what he got.
