“I wouldn’t be the person I am without my family roots,”
BRANDON | Brandon native and actor Laura Ramsey has a new TV series starting January.
“It’s my favorite work so far,” Ramsey, who was home for Christmas and relaxing in her parent’s kitchen, said of her role in “Hindsight.” “It’s about getting a do-over. The premise is; if you had a chance, would you make the same choices you made when you were younger? It’s set in the 1990s, and has the greatest music, people are using those huge cell phones, there is lots of nostalgia. It’s lots of fun. It’s both a comedy and drama.”
Ramsey, who has always had the acting bug, graduated from Laconia High School in 2001 and with the encouragement of family and friends, made her move to Hollywood, where in 2004 she was in the TV series “The Days.” Since then she has landed many TV and movie roles.
Her credits include the TV series “The Days” and many TV parts including an appearance on “Mad Men.” On screen she played Olivia in the 2006 movie, “She’s the Man,” Stacy in the 2008 movie “The Ruins,” Audrey in the 2009 movie Middle Men and Ellie in 2011 movie “Kill the Irishman.”
Ramsey said the most fun about acting begins the moment the director says, “Action!”
“Instantly I become another person, completely immersed in the character,” she said.
Ramsey remembers the encouragement she once got from the late Robin Williams when the two met filming the 2009 movie “Shrink,” staring Kevin Spacey.
“I played a drunk, and in a scene had to whisper into and lick his ear. I was extremely nervous, but he said, ‘do whatever you need to do.’ It was very generous of him. He made me feel comfortable. As an actor, he gave his best. On hearing of his death, I was shocked. Saddened,” she said.
Ramsey said she has learned something from every film she’s made and that something good has come from them, whether about life, or something technical.
“Hollywood has been good to me. It’s known as a place for lost souls, but my path has been guided. I’ve been lucky,” said Ramsey who admitted that her Midwest upbringing and values have been invaluable.
“I wouldn’t be the person I am without my family roots,” she said.
