They were taken into the West to the Blessed Realm of the elves, thus дана a special exception, {to a certain part of this realm, anyway}, still rare, and some later, [non-immortals earned the honor] when few could still travel yonder.

A continent originally lying in the far West of Arda, now removed from the World, for the race of Ainur, and also inhabited by Elves - immortal beings, .

Names:
Aman, The Blessed Realm, Otherworld, Valinor, Tol Eressëa, the Undying Lands, The Uttermost West, The West, West over Sea, and West of the World.

That place is called Valinor. It is where the Valar are, and it used to be where Valinor and Middle-Earth were the same and Ты could travel between them, but all this stuff happened with Elves rebelling against the Valar, and so Valinor was basically cut off from Middle Earth. Read The Silmarillion and it all makes sense.

The land, reffered to as the "utter west", is another continent in the mythical land of arda known as valinor. It is Главная to the supreme gods (valar) and their demi-god creations (maiar) such as gandalf and the eagles. It is also the Главная of the high elves called the "Vanyar", including galadrial and elrond (half). As far as middle earth-ians go, only elves are allowed to set foot there because of a long and dumb racist reason... Although ring-bearers are an exception to this rule eg. Frodo and bilbo. Because Samwise is also a temporary bearer of the one ring, he earns the right to travel to valinor but doesn't journey there untill roughly 60 years later.

Oh I forgot to mention that only the Ringbearers were allowed to go there from that on, which is why Gandalf, Bilbo, Frodo and eventually Sam, got their place in the elven ships. Gimli the dwarf wasn't a Ringbearer but was still allowed to go there, probably because he'd befriend Legolas in such a genuine way. But basically, it's only for the elves. I've always taken the Undying Lands a sort of a metaphora for a Heaven on Earth. But I haven't read Silmarillion, so I don't know much about the place.

Well, first of all, the last ship to leave Middle-Earth is NOT the one that take Bilbo and Frodo away. That's in the film, but if Ты read the book, you'll learn that the very last ship to leave was the one Legolas built in Ithilien when he learned about King Elessar's (Aragorn's) death. That last ship took Legolas and Gimli (who was accepted into the west thanks to Galadriel's request to the Valar) into Valinor, the Undying Land, where the Valar live in a most beautiful and peaceful place.

Ты could say that it carries them out of their lives. The ship is headed deep into the unknown, a place that can never be explored. Those that try don't come back.

No. It is a land that was separated from Middle Earth so that mortals cannot reach it at the end of the секунда Age after the king of Numenor tried to sail to Valinor. If Ты want to know more, read Silmarillion. :)

It goes to Valinor, though it is not actually the last ship. I believe the last ship carries Legolas and Gimli. Valinor is where Valar and the elves dwell.

J.R.R. Tolkien was a christian. And it's been сказал(-а) that Lord of The Rings is christian based ( which is something I do believe.) So the meaning of Frodo's hardships is the meaning of the christian's path. So when Frodo got on that лодка it was symbolising a christian leaving the pain of this world and going to heaven.

Valinor.

I think during those days America was like a promised land for many people in war torn and recession hit Europe. It might have played in Tolkien's mind and he used sailing west to valinor as a metaphor. These stories are heavily influenced by Beowulf. Viking's did like sailing west for unknown lands, isn't it?

I guess Gene Roddenberry (Star Trek) also took the idea and created Vulcuns after their image. Pointed ear, tall, lives long and prosper. Logical?

The ship goes to the Grey Havens, или the Undying lands as they are also called. Only immortal beings are allowed there; though exceptions were made for Frodo, Bilbo, and the other members of the Fellowship that joined them there later; Gimli and Sam.
