Lorde Pays Elegant Tribute To David Bowie At The BRIT Awards

Lorde sang \'Life On Mars?\' with Bowie\'s former backing band.

While Wednesday night’s BRIT Awards featured many flashy moments — like Drake and Rihanna’s steamy “Work” performance, or Adele’s major outpouring of emotion — the ceremony also took time to pay tribute to David Bowie, a British legend we lost far too soon earlier this year.

After Bowie was posthumously awarded with the BRIT Icon Award, Lorde took the stage to sing “Life On Mars?” with the late singer’s former backing band. The band performed a medley of Bowie’s major hits, including “Space Oddity,” “Rebel Rebel,” and even included that famous “Under Pressure” bass line. Lorde, dressed in simple, elegant black and white, took over for a graceful rendition of the 1971 hit, from Bowie’s classic album

After Bowie’s passing in January, Lorde posted an emotional tribute to her Facebook, calling Bowie her “hero” and recalling, “He was a piece of bright pleated silk we could stretch out or fold up small inside ourselves when we needed to.”
