The original Источник of the "MJ converts to Islam" claim, was an Статья in “The Sun”, a UK tabloid, well-known for making up stories. The other newspapers used “The Sun” as their source, and merely repeated the story.

When Jermaine converted to Islam, there were rumors that MJ would possibly do the same. In 2008 the tabloid "The Sun" put out the rumor that Michael had become a Muslim during a ceremony at a “friend’s” house, after he had allegedly been convinced by a “friend” to convert. Two of the people who were claimed by the Статья to have been there, have stated that it never happened. These “friends” are the "Nation of Islam", a political-religious organization. Jermaine got bodyguards from the Nation of Ислам to “protect” Michael from "certain" people.
