Is it normal for a teacher to give Ты a book to read which is of a sexual nature?

My history teacher gave me this book called Mr Norris changes trains to read with instructions to make notes on Nazi Germany, but I've started chapter 4 and the Nazis have barely been mentioned, and the whole book so far has been full of sexual implications, the narrator (a bloke called William Bradshaw) has already walked in on a weird sex scene and I half expect "Mr Norris" to proposition the narrator when I'm Чтение it. And this is just the start of the book.

I feel very uncomfortable with this book and I seriously don't want to read any еще of it, but I'm not sure what else to do. Any ideas?
