For those who know facts about surgery.

So my long distance boyfriend got hit by a car, ending up breaking his ribs. Now he's in the hospital and about to have surgery because now his back is hurting. Please don't try to make me stop worrying like a madman, just be realistic, what is the percentage of back surgeries going wrong? x

Book-Freak said:
No surgery is without risk - they are cutting people open, after all - but they would definitely not do the operation if they didn't think it was worth it или likely to succeed. A comforting thing about how little money hospitals have nowadays is that they are very careful with procedures because the cannot afford (literally!) to go wrong. If they didn't think the surgery was the right choice, they would definitely not do it. Also, doctors and nurses are trained incredibly well. They know what they are doing and they do it well. Ты are obviously going to worry - he is your boyfriend after all - but I think the likelihood of something going wrong in the operation is pretty low.

Glad I could help! This a basically what my mum сказал(-а) to me a couple of weeks назад - I have a friend going in for major surgery soon, and I felt the same as Ты do now.

Yeah, like Book-Freak said, every surgery has risk, even the smallest surgeries.

Don't worry too much, your boyfriend will have had discussions with the surgeon about the procedure and about slight risks that could possibly be involved.

I've had surgery before and when I was being prepped for surgery they told me everything that would happen, that there is a slight chance that it may not work, but overall, not to worry because they are very skilled and there is an extremely high percentage of it being successful. I'm so glad I got that surgery because I'm so much better and a completely different person now :) (knee surgery/acl ligament reattachment surgery)

So please don't worry :) He'll be fine, his surgeon will discuss with him the entire procedure. There will be a LONG recovery, and a lot of pain, but, it will be much better in the long run. Have faith, it will help him :)

Best wishes for the both of you.
