Obviously, to a certain extent. Selfishness is a word we created to suit a certain trait we recognised in ourselves. I don't think selfishness and survival are necessarily the same things, when Ты consider that Животные are incapable of conscious thought, therefore the concept is foreign to them. That's part of what makes it a human concept. Животные simply take what they need for survival, because, for the most part, it is necessary for that. However, I recognise selfishness as being human in the point that we are greedy and want what we don't really need, just because we want it. That's real selfishness, as opposed to Животные don't even have the capacity to recognise what 'selfishness' или 'survival' actually means. Also, there is the fact Животные simply kill, или take food, for the very purpose of living, или not knowing what it actually means to be either of those things. Whereas humans know what selfishness is and just be that way, regardless of how it impacts them, или those around them. I feel that is the stark difference here. Humans named the trait/concept, recognised it as being negative, или adverse, then people just decided that they didn't care about that anyway, so they never stopped themselves from being that way. Whereas Животные have no understanding of the concept only do what they do, because it is necessary for survival. N.b. I realise that there are some Животные that don't do certains becuase it's necessary for survival, but just because they react to that animalistic instinct. Even so, humans are worse, because they know and don't care.
