Kind of serious question;

If it were me personally, I'd want to go with something other than my main work first, like a novella или something. There's a lot of ins and outs with the publishing industry you've got to learn, plus things like beta readers and editors and things like that.

It's quite the learning curve and I feel like that would be too much pressure to put on my major, most important work. I would want my most important one to be as perfect as possible, and that would be a lot to consider while also getting the hang of the whole professional writer thing.

I feel like either my quality of work would fall short или I wouldn't learn what I needed to about getting published, and the last thing I would want would be to be disappointed in my main story.

I can see the appeal of wanting to work on your main story first though. After all it's probably what you're most invested in, but to me that's just еще reason to hold on to it for a while.

One thing Ты could maybe consider is working on something that's still related to your main story somehow. Maybe something in the same universe, fleshing out some of the lore (if your story has lore, which I kind of assume it does 'cause it's you) или maybe one или two of the characters and/or their backstories. That way Ты can still have something kind of related to the main story and maybe flesh out your ideas some.

That being сказал(-а) there are people who work on their main stories first with success, so it boils down mostly to what you're comfortable with.


Ты may have already heard of this Youtube channel, but this lady talks a lot about the publishing industry/editors/beta readers/book marketing/general Письмо advice. She knows a lot еще about the subject than any of us probably do and would probably be a really good resource.

in my opinion ,its the short story first....
if your Письмо a book for the first time, most people will prefer a short story.... Ты can also introduce yourself while publishing it... many people will get to know you....

when Ты Опубликовать your main story which Ты have worked on for a very long time after publishing a short story, the book will reach many people than when Ты Опубликовать it as your first work......

but at the same time publishing your main book first also has major advantages.... if ur book becomes a big hit , Ты will get even еще readers than Ты get from your book with a short story....

posting the main story first или posting it after 1 или 2 short stories...both has its pros and cons......
