Personally I can't do this, no matter the genre, as I concentrate on the music to the expense of the work, lol. Have always been envious of people who can, though.
XD I know its proven that music is counter productive as your mind registers facts with certain sounds and in a testing area you dont have music and all, but I really cant stay focus while studying otherwise. Everything else just catches my attention if it isnt there to music to distract the part listing for things.
But then again, I cant really focus on studying in any case, this is just when Im taking notes and all.
Eh, well back in high school days of studying it would have been no, because that kind of studying was more for tests, and I need to focus.
But now at uni I don't have exams, just assignments, which involve a lot of drawing and designing, so I need music in the background all the time whenever I'm doing my work :P
^That makes sense. Foster creativity with creativity :p Maybe the problem is that I tried it last week while doing biostatistics homework... the furthest from "creative" (and simultaneously the most boring) unit I will ever do.
Crack out the oil paintings I started 5 years ago and still haven't finished, and background music may just work xD
