Good one. Now this would be a much more difficult choice than the Sam vs Cas one. I think he'd choose Lisa and Ben because they are such innocents and Dean feels as responsible for them as he does for Sammy. But Sam is a hunter, he risks his life daily. Lisa and Ben are civilians and vulnerable. If he let them die it would absolutely crush him. They are as much his family now as Sam. But they aren't hunters and therefore fall into the category of those they must protect at all costs. In a way, Dean already let Sam die for them when he let Sam sacrifice himself to save the world. This would be the same as any hunt: priority is to protect the civilian. Sam and Dean both risk their [and each others] lives to do that every day.

^He did though. With Lisa and Ben. He was recovering, moving on- living. For a whole year.

Oh and another thing....In Point of No Return, Dean was willing to kill Sam/Lucifer in order to protect the Braedens/the world. He didn't want to but he was gearing up for it because he thought that Sam would say yes to Lu. And if that happened he had to be there to stop him. He regained his faith in Sam and they found another way but the point is, Dean wasn't going to let anything happen to Lisa and Ben. Even if that meant he had to kill Sam.

I don't know...this is hard, because Ben is Dean's son (maybe not biologically, but in all the ways that count) and Lisa is (in my opinion) the love of Dean's life. They are his family too. They mean so much to Dean. So I'm severely torn in this option.

I agree with fanfly, that in Point of No Return he was willing to sacrifice Sam to save Lisa/Ben and the entire world as he knew it. But, then again, he wasn't really risking Sammy, his little brother, this kid he grew up protecting. He was CONVINCED that Sam would say yes to Lucifer, in which case he wouldn't really be Sammy anymore. I think, yes, Dean let Sam die to "protect/save the entire world" when he let him say yes to Lucifer, but really, it wasn't his choice to make and he knew that, so he only really let Sam make up his own mind, for one of the first times in his adult life.

Like I said, this is a really hard decision for me, because I know how much it would destroy Dean to lose Lisa/Ben. Probably, at least almost as much as it destroyed him to lose Sam. I kind of have to agree with Dean-girlx that he can't live without Sam, though I know he did for a year with Lisa/Ben, and he was almost okay. But even then he was looking for a way to help Sam, even then he was struggling with it daily. He was happy, but there was a part of him that was still completely shattered. A part of him that would never heal because Sam was gone. But I still feel like there would be a part of him that would be just as shattered if Lisa/Ben died. As you can see, this question has me torn.

But I chose Sammy, because IF there are no end of the world consequences, IF Sam is still that kid brother that Dean would do anything, like going to Hell for, even living an "apple-pie life" that he doesn't fit into exactly, and pretty much anything in-between, then I think that he would choose Sam. Because he's looked out for him since he was four years old dragging him out of the fire.

Although I really don't know. But I'm pretty sure, if push came to shove he would choose Sam. Would it haunt him for the rest of his life and make him feel like giving up, and would he probably be in the same condition he was in when he went to Lisa's doorstep at the end of S5, YES, but I still think he'd make that decision. I don't know if he would be able to survive making that choice, but I think he'd make it.

Did I mention, I'm torn? *sigh*

I think he would always choose Sam deep down he would pick him I know he lived without sam for that year but that was on the outside deep down he would be dying to see sam again and plus he was doing what he always does keeping his promise to sammy

I think he will always choose Sam no matter what. Yeah maby he would feel guilty about Lis and Ben, but no matter what in first place always be Sam. He can't live without Sam. Maby yes he needs Sam more that Sam needs him, but..I don't know I think he will choose Sam.

Lose/lose. He can't let Sam die, of course, but he'd never forgive himself if he lost Lisa and Ben, because, as fanfly said, they're innocents and he already feels responsible for dragging them into this in the first place. Not to mention that he does still care very deeply for them. They're the closest thing he's ever had to a wife and child and the normal life he's always wanted.

This isn't even a question. How anyone can not pick Sam I don't know...
