The 100 renewed for season 5 

. The CW has renewed the sci-fi drama for a fifth season, the network’s president Mark Pedowitz announced Friday.

follows a group of survivors of a nuclear apocalypse in the near future who return to Earth only to clash with other tribes of humans who also escaped Doomsday. This season, all of them struggle with the knowledge of 

apocalypse on the way, caused by the rapid meltdown of nuclear reactors around the globe.

, based on Kass Morgan’s novels and created by Jason Rothenberg, is produced by Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Alloy Entertainment, Warner Bros. Television, and CBS Television Studios. The series airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
