“Stefan, you’re a d$#k” – The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Episode 2 – Yellow Ledbetter

Episode 2 of Season 6 of The Vampire Diaries reveals to viewers what we’ve been wondering ever since the finale of Season 5–where do Damon and Bonnie go after the collapse of the Other Side?  It’s not

According to the newspaper they find in an abandoned Mystic Falls, it’s May 10, 1994… and they end up reliving the same day over and over in this alternate universe for months.

We still don’t know why they’re stuck at May 10, 1994, when an eclipse happens, but Damon and Bonnie are spending their time trying to find out (Bonnie more so… Damon drinks and makes pancakes every day).  Bonnie finds Grams’ book in this universe and tries to get herself to be able to do magic again, unfortunately without any luck.

Meanwhile back in 2014, Elena packs up Damon’s things as she prepares to have Alaric wipe out the fact that she ever loved Damon from her memory.  Damon dying was too much for her to handle, so she took a dramatic route in her attempt at emotional healing (better option than her addiction to witch drugs?  We’ll see).  What follows is a sad look back at Elena’s memories of Damon as Alaric takes them away one by one.

The final memory he takes is the moment Elena fell in love with Damon.  Feeling guilty for having fallen in love with him while she was still with Stefan, Elena takes a while to open up to Alaric about this.  She reveals that she fell in love with him on her birthday when Damon got her the necklace Stefan gave her in Season 1.  At the time Stefan was away from Mysitc Falls with Klaus.

When Alaric takes this key memory away, all Elena remembers about Damon is that he snapped Jeremy’s neck.  When Alaric asks her one final time who Damon is, she replies, “He’s Stefan’s brother, he’s a monster, and he died”.

Where’s Enzo?  He did not make an appearance in the Season 6 premiere, but in episode two we learn that Alaric has been in touch with him as he searches for a way to bring Damon back.  He and Caroline seem to be the only people left who haven’t given up, so they get together to find a solution.

Caroline and Enzo end up finding Stefan, who to their surprise stopped searching long ago, is shacking up with Ivy, working at an auto repair shop, and pretending to be a normal human.  They four of them have an awkward dinner, followed by some light violence when Enzo stabs Stefan with a fork.  Caroline takes Ivy upstairs to compel her when Enzo and Stefan start to fight each other.

You gotta love Caroline, who keeps getting more and more likable in this show.  When she finds out Stefan simply quit his old life and his friends, Caroline tells him he’s a “dick,” and walks out.

When Enzo catches her crying the car, he storms back to Stefan’s apartment and kills Ivy, hopefully sending the message that Stefan needs to snap out of his asshole-ery and get back to looking for a way to rescue Damon.

Remember Sarah, the girl Elena bit while she was drugged up on the side of the road?  She’s staying with Jeremy at Tyler’s house, and Tripp is looking for her when he finds out the car she was in was stolen.  Sarah overhears Matt try and get Jeremy to kick her out, and lets herself out, saying she has a father in town.

Matt learns that Tripp is actually a Fell, a member of the founding families of Mystic Falls.  Tripp acts like he doesn’t know the town’s supernatural history over the phone to Matt, yet when he hangs up, Tripp is turns out to be driving a van full of vampires over the town line, effectively executing them.

Back in 1994, Damon notices Bonnie finally got the one clue she was trying to solve in the crossword puzzle from the May 10 paper.  Only Bonnie didn’t solve it… neither did Damon.  They learn that they are not alone in this alternate universe.

This season is very intriguing.  Will Elena have feelings for Stefan now that she forgot her relationship with Damon?  Is Enzoline going to happen?  Is 

going to happen??  Both of those couple names are horrible, but either get-together would be great.
