Predictions For Season 8 of 'The Walking Dead' You Won't Be Able to Deny
There\'s nowhere to go but up. After a sluggish seventh season that asked fans to endure the good guys taking it on the chin over and over and over,
[Spoilers for the comic and possible spoilers for the TV show to follow.]
The finale of season seven, "The First Day of the Rest of Your Life," saw the end of "peace" with the Saviors. There\'s no going back now. Rick and the Survivors, Maggie and Hilltop, and the Kingdom are all in against Negan and his Saviors, not to mention the turncoat Heapsters. War is coming, and that means people are going to die.
fan. It\'s a lock. Every season sees the ends of multiple major characters, it\'s part of the show\'s charm! This is horror. We signed up for major trauma. So whose numbers will be called in season eight?
future is predetermined (at least most of it). Robert Kirkman\'s comic is already out there for us to read and the show follows it closely. (Kirkman also executive produces and writes the AMC series.) So, with the comic as a guide, let\'s predict some of the major events coming next October when the show returns.
Look for both halves of season eight, 16 episodes total, to encompass the "All-Out War" storyline from the comic. No TV show milks it like
so don\'t expect a resolution anytime soon. When Jeffrey Dean Morgan was brought in to play Negan, he told
he could be around for "three or four seasons" if the show follows the comic closely. Which brings us to...
Rick won\'t get his wish to kill Negan in season eight. In the comics, the war is drawn out over 12 issues with the Saviors and Survivors battling at different locations, losing people along the way. But it doesn\'t end with Negan\'s death as one might expect. Instead, Negan is captured and imprisoned. Remember that cell Morgan built? They didn\'t show that for no reason. That\'ll be Negan\'s home by the end of the season and all of season nine. He and Rick will fight, and I\'m betting the show will make it more brutal than the comic. Negan breaks Rick\'s leg and Rick slashes Negan\'s throat, but they both live.
Dwight\'s path to redemption is clearly marked, and the writers even confirmed he wasn\'t part of the Heapsters betrayal in the season seven finale with that shot of Daryl finding the wooden soldier Dwight left behind. Expect more of the same. Dwight will become the Survivors\' inside man next season and help Rick take the Saviors down. Although, he may have to do more evil to keep Negan believing in him. In the comics, Dwight shoots Rick with a zombie guts-covered arrow so we\'ll see if that happens. I think Dwight will die in the final battle after finding himself again. It doesn\'t happen in the comic, but that\'s my prediction. He\'ll also have a scene where he gives Daryl\'s vest and crossbow back to him.
The bullet factory has already been introduced and Eugene has endeared himself to Negan so the next step for him will be beginning production on ammunition for the Saviors. It\'ll start out that way, but Eugene will send all his ammo to Rick, not Negan. Comic Eugene has a moral quandary about making bullets to kill humans so that may prove to be an early obstacle, but Rick will convince him otherwise. The bullet factory also gets overrun by walkers so look out for that also. Eugene\'s success making bullets may also lead to a romance with Rosita, believe it or not. It happens in the comic.
Morgan is already past his comic expiration date. He\'s killed by walkers fairly early on. (He also has sex with Michonne, but we won\'t be seeing that happen.) Currently, Morgan is back to his old killing ways and I\'m betting that won\'t be easy to live with. His longevity on the TV series, however, suggests a worthy death is near. I think he\'ll be the focus of one episode next season and that episode will end in his death. Expect it to also include the death of Jared, the long-haired scumbag who killed Ben. Morgan\'s gonna destroy that dude.
Also, look for Aaron\'s boyfriend, Eric, to bite the dust. He\'s not a fighter and his death will lead to a more interesting storyline for Aaron. Hopefully, one centered on revenge. I also expect Gregory to die, probably by Negan or Simon\'s hand. In the season seven finale, Gregory seems ready to cut a deal with Simon and become his stool pigeon. That won\'t work out.
Around this time in the comic, Shiva is killed by walkers. Expect that to happen and for Ezekiel to go into mourning. Story-wise, it was Kirkman\'s original decision and, practically, it makes sense. It costs a lot of money to keep a CGI animal around on TV. Ask
There needs to be some romance in season eight, right? Look for Carl and Enid to get down at some point in a "end of the world" type scenario. The show has been pushing their romance all along so it has to continue growing. An awkward sex scene seems likely. How will the writers fit this in amongst a storyline of war and death? Who knows, but they found time to watch these two roller skate down the street next season. They\'ll find a way to get them together.
It\'ll take all 16 episodes, but the Survivors will emerge victorious at the end of season eight. They\'ll lose people, and the show may kill off someone huge in a surprise move (I\'m thinking Carol, perhaps, who will be distraught after Morgan dies), but the big drama next season will come in the back and forth fighting between the Survivors and Saviors.
loves to set us up for huge moments and ease them out slowly. Negan is the show\'s best villain so far and he\'ll be squeezed for every drop of evil he\'s got in him.
