I have to say, it took me awhile to get past my first impression of Twilight. Actually, I had never even heard of the Книги until I saw people gushing about them on Fanpop. I scoffed at the Fanpoppers comparing them to Harry Potter, never questioning my belief that nothing could come close to the level of awesomeness that is the HP series.

The Twilight saga came up еще and еще often as the release дата for Breaking Dawn drew closer, and despite my first impression, I started getting curious. Dismissing a book offhand is not something I do lightly, especially when so many people seem to Любовь it. So I suppose it was really inevitable that I'd read them eventually.

What really did it in the end was when my roommate came Главная with the first book. I was still wary, having recently had someone who knows me pretty well tell me I might not like them. Then, not еще than 100 pages into Twilight, my roommate was already hooked and told me in no uncertain terms that she'd be passing me the book as soon as she was done with it.

It took me 10 pages to fall in love. I fell so hard and so thoroughly that it honestly quite took me by surprise. I couldn't even hold on to my blasé attitude for an entire chapter. One look into Edward Cullen's topaz eyes and there was no turning back. I haven't fallen so hard for a novel since the first time I read The Golden Compass, and trust me, that's saying something.

That was Friday night. When I'm really hooked, I can be a ridiculously fast reader. Even pacing myself, I tore through the first three Книги in less than 72 hours. Hell, the only reason I haven't already finished Breaking Dawn is because my roommate is taking her sweet time Чтение it. Still, I'm appreciating the break. It's nice to be forced into reflecting on what's happened so far and anticipating what I know is going to be a mind-blowing finale.

So, this has turned into an enormous gush-fest, but I really just wanted to express how utterly and completely wrong I was to judge these books. They are everything an imaginative young (or even young at heart) girl could want in a novel and more. I know I will read them many еще times over the years, and get еще out of them with every reading.

My final verdict: firmly entrenched in my сердце for eternity.

Moychy I totally understand what you mean...I heard about Twilight on Facebook for the first time and it kind of annoyed me when people compared it with Harry Potter...but it also annoyed me not knowing what all these Pieces of Flair on Facebook were about...so I read the first book and while finishing it already searched for the second and the third...I've read all three of them in three days and couldn't wait for July to pass and for August to come, so I could read BD...Now I must say I'm a proud Twilight saga addict and I keep rereading sections of the books over and over again...I never get bored :D So thanks to all the Pieces of Flair makers on Facebook to make me read the book :D p.s. I love your article by the way ;)

kateliness2 Seeing this article in my updates took me by deep surprise. You were one of the last people I would have expected to read Twilight... and, yet, here we are. I'm very glad that you don't let prejudices stop you from reading a series. I'm afraid that has happened to me before and when I finally broke down, I loved it (not this series, but still...). I must ask though: What which book is your favorite? Which character? Do you like Bella? Jacob? Edward? Emmett? I'm quite curious. I guess I value your opinion :)

blisslikethis aw thanks kate :) i'm definitely on Team Edward. i had some idea of what was going to happen with Jacob before i read the books because of comments i'd happened upon on Fanpop. after i read Twilight and New Moon, i kept wishing that it just wouldn't happen.. like maybe all those Fanpoppers were talking about something else haha. so yeah, Edward all the way. i honestly don't understand the people who root for Jacob when it's so obvious that Edward and Bella were meant to be together from the start. it's not really a Leyton/Brucas kind of situation in that way at all. Jacob and Bella never had a chance, and i think Stephenie made that clear from the start. hah, that was a long winded way of saying I heart Edward Cullen lol.

snoznoodle It's full on isn't it? I'm a really recent fan too. My friend told me how addictive they were and I knew it had to be good but it took me by surprise too! I became a fan about 2 months ago. I've already got someone else obsessed. I think I read Eclipse in a day!

I first got Twilight in July for a holiday book because I was intrigued by constantly seeing it in the updates and spots on the Fanpop home page. So I went searching for the books and bought Twilight and New Moon to take with me for the two weeks. How could I have predicted that I would read Twilight so quickly? I was hooked. Three days into my holiday I was desperately wanting to come home so that I could buy Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. I got home and bought the books before meeting my friend to go to the cinema. I showed him the books and he thought they looked good and went to go and buy Twilight after the film. He phoned me the next day and was like, "I hate you. I was up all last night reading Twilight". He was hooked to. My other friend is now reading them and my Mum has stolen my copy. blisslikethis: When you say that you were skeptical about reading Twilight, I was like that when HP first can out. I remember reading about them and seeing them on TV and absolutely hating it. Then I finally coaxed myself into getting PS from the library, and I loved it. I always like harry but I never thought that Twilight would be so much better. I think this cult could be going for a lot longer, and I'm pleased that I'm part of it!

kateliness2 That's cool, bliss :) I don't know what 'Team' I'm on per say; I never really rooted Jacob/Bella (as we all know that was never going to happen), but I do think that had Edward not come along, they would have been adorable. Also, Jacob is by far my favorite character :) So, yeah. I always pick "Team Jacob" on those questions, even though I'm not quite sure what people mean by 'team.' I don't root Jacob/Bella, but I *heart* Jacob Black. I'm always a bit harsh to Edward on this spot, just because some people are so mean to Jacob. Don't get me wrong, I like Edward, but he doesn't need any extra love from me. This spot practically pulsates "EDWARD", lol. Oh, also: Have you formed an opinion on the HP vs. Twilight debate yet? Or do you think they're incomparable?

blisslikethis totally incomparable. i think the only reason they ever get compared is because they speak to roughly the same audience. otherwise, they're not in the least bit similar and really shouldn't have all these wars going on between them. i mean, if Twilight's taught us anything, it's that it's possible to love two things at the same time ;)

tigerlover656 i never really thought that i was on a team, either. i mean sure, when i was a fan i rooted for both teams. but now that i think about it, i wasnt really a fan of either teams.

tinydancer This is such a great article! I was totally the same, kinda avoiding Twilight cos of the HP comparisons, but once I gave in and read it, I LOVED it. Maybe I would have better off avoiding it cos I havent stopped thinking about it since I finished reading all the books! I just re-read Twilight yesterday and I think I love it even more now! God help me, between Harry Potter and Twilight I'm truely obsessed with fictional characters :)

blisslikethis OMGeee!!! i finally read Breaking Dawn a couple of days ago (750 pages in 6 hours - what is wrong with me??) and was blown away. so many things i wasn't expecting! wow.

kateliness2 Wow. That is quick. Took me 9 hours ;) I honestly thought Breaking Dawn seemed like a fan fiction. It's my second least favorite (My order, by the way, is: Eclipse, New Moon, Breaking Dawn, Twilight). What did you think?

blisslikethis it certainly felt a little tangential. it was still satisfying in that it summed up everything that i wanted wrapped up. honestly, i don't think i've quite processed everything haha. why is Twilight your least favourite?
