It was surprising how awake and alert Ты could be at 3am when Ты were risking your life. Like when you're crouching on roof across from an abandoned warehouse. That was clearly not abandoned.
или maybe, to the average citizen, the dark building appeared empty. Maybe Silver had spent too much time looking for the deseption beneath the blanket of innocence.
She laughed under her breath. Innocence. Was there really such a thing?
Her train of thought was derailed when she saw the flicker of a flame appear and disappear in a corner of shadows below. Silver brushed a finger over her Энджел pendant for luck and, with a running start, leapt onto the roof of the "abandoned" warehouse.
------------------------------
It didn't take long for Silver to find a paneless window close to the roof. She was able to drop silently onto the sill and balance there for a moment before moving to one of the beams that ran from one Стена to another. 30 feet off the ground.
The scent of burning tobacco reached Silver's nose halfway across the beam. Even this high up, it was strong enough to make her throat sting.
She inched another foot further across before slowing lowering to a crouch.
Far below, an array of lamps lit the dark with a yellowish glow. Crates along the walls were outlined and cast into the shadows. In the center of the room was a table. Cards, coins, and bills were strewn across its surface. Sitting around the таблица were three men. It was hard to make out there faces from an ariel view. The clouds of smoke from the men's cigars didn't help much.
Silver could also make out the shape of bulky figures behind the men and at various intervals around the room. They stood at attention, perfectly still. Bodyguards.
The three men at the таблица were playing a card game. A gambling game, Silver guessed from the various amount of money that kept getting added to the pile.
But aside from the game, they were also talking. It was only a dull murmer to her ears.
Silver sighed. These men may it may not be the con men and theives Blaze had described to her. But wether или not these men were conning their fellow Gothamites, she was going to need evidence. And evidence meant a closer look.
