It\'s officially the one-year anniversary of Zayn\'s departure from One Direction. So much has changed from when the five boys were taking over our playlists, hearts, and pretty much our lives. With the four remaining boys officially on a hiatus and Zayn\'s new solo album out, it\'s hard to believe that it was just a year ago since 1D went from a five-piece band to group of four, and it\'s hard not to feel a little nostalgic for the good old days. 

As we anxiously wait to see what\'s next for our fave boy band, let\'s take a look back at all that\'s gone down during the past year since Zayn left One Direction.

March 25, 2015: ​Zayn officially leaves 1D \'to be a normal 22- year- old,\' leaving Harry, Niall, Liam, and Louis to continue on tour as a four-piece band. 

Harry is seen supposedly crying over Zayn\'s departure in a concert in Jakarta. 

March 26, 2015: The remaining 1D boys each release personal statements on Twitter after Zayn left the band, then Liam shares a very sentimental post to the fans.

March 28, 2015: One Direction perform for the first time without Zayn at the Johannesburg, South Africa concert.

​March 30, 2015: Music producer [and Zayn\'s close friend at the time] Naughty Boy tweeted, then deleted a SoundCloud link to a solo song, \'I Won\'t Mind\' sung by Zayn, stirring up drama in the 1D fandom. 

April 2015: Zayn makes his first solo public appearance at the annual Asian Awards in London. He wins an award for

Early May 2015: A crazy Twitter feud between Naughty Boy, Louis, and Zayn breaks out and has us on the edge of our seats following the escalating drama.

June 2015: Zayn covers Rae Sremmurd\'s \'No Type,\' giving us a taste of his R&B sound.

July 2015: ​Naughty Boy releases a sneak preview of Zayn\'s "No Type" music video [without his consent] resulting with the end of their friendship and work relationship.

August 2015: 1D announce their first break after five years. ​

September 2015: Zayn posts his first Instagram as a solo artist.

Zayn and super model Gigi Hadid are first spotted hanging out together after the AMAs after-party, marking the beginning of Zigi. 

December 2015: One Direction go on a fun karaoke ride with James Corden reminding us of the good ol\' days —​ minus Zayn, #tears. 

Liam confirms his first solo project: co-writing a song for another boy band, HomeTown. ​

Early January 2016: Liam gives us a sneak peak of a solo song he wrote that sounds ​very different than the typical One Direction pop sound we\'re used to. 

January 26, 2016: One Direction release their music video, \'History,\' which technically features [old clips of] Zayn. (Sounds so strange to say, doesn\'t it?!)

January 27, 2016: Louis posts his first picture with his adorable son, and Zayn likes a fan\'s screenshot of the photo on Twitter.

January 28, 2016: Zayn releases his first single, "Pillowtalk," as a solo artist. The music video catches us by surprise, starring his girlfriend Gigi. He also announces details of his debut album.

February 2016: Harry signs with CAA management, confirming a solo career. Meanwhile, Zayn gives his first solo performance of his second single, "iT\'s YoU," rumoured to be about ex fiancée Perrie Edwards and releases the music video on iTunes. Zayn also confirms collaborations with artists, such as Chris Brown and Lil Wayne.

​Zayn releases two more songs, "Like I Would," an upbeat catchy dance tune, and "BeFoUr," a soft pop song rumoured to be about 1D.​

​Zayn reveals he wasn\'t allowed to be his true self in One Direction, admitting he couldn\'t keep his beard or dye his hair until he rebelled. 

In an interview with NME, Zayn confesses he\'s not close to 1D, adding: "I\'m still probably the closest to Liam." However, he no longer speaks to the other three boys.​ "I tried to have contact but nobody\'s reached out. So... whatever," he shared.
