American Horror Story: Freak Показать Finale Recap: Is That All There Is?

I remember visiting this website once...
It was called ‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ Recap — Elsa and Dandy Die | TVLine
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
to a close, Dandy at last made his stage “debut,” and Elsa arrived in the one place in the world that might actually be weirder than her own Cabinet of Curiosities: Hollywood.
Fargo Season 2 Role, The Americans‘ Future, Bridge Regrets and More
THE BEGINNING OF THE END | As the finale kicked off, Dandy was pitching a fit over the fact that, just like Penny predicted, audiences weren’t lining up to see a “rich Nancy sing show tunes.” And, in no time, he’d become so intolerable that he’d been decked by Amazon Eve, and Paul had quit the show on everyone’s behalf. What’s more, the Illustrated Seal called Dandy the worst thing he possibly could — boring — and added that, no matter what, he’d never be one of them. “We don’t trade in boring,” he spat. “We’re freaks.”
ALL FALL DOWN | Shortly thereafter, Dandy cheerfully prepared for showtime. Mind you, for him, showtime meant gunning down Paul, Toulouse, Legless Suzi, Ima and more, and humming all the while. Brave Amazon Eve hurled herself at the psycho, and for a minute, it looked like she was going to be able to handle him. But, after he shot her in the leg, she was done for. So by the time Jimmy arrived on the scene that evening, it appeared that only Desiree (who’d hidden during the massacre) had survived.

TILL DEATH DO US PART | Given a choice between a bullet between the eyes and a ring on her finger, Bette — gasp! — tied the knot with Dandy. Luckily, theirs wouldn’t be a long marriage, as the “maid” that the bride and Dot had hired was none other than Desiree. After she drugged the groom, the Tattlers revealed that they had duped him. “Bette Davis couldn’t have given a more convincing performance” than Bette did, Dot hissed. As Dandy slipped into unconsciousness, Jimmy told him that he was “finally gonna be a part of the show.”
A SINKING FEELING | When Dandy awakened chained in Houdini’s famous escape tank, he begged Bette to release him. But even she couldn’t muster up mercy for her friends’ killer. “I hate you!” she yelled. Then, the Tattlers, Desiree and Jimmy (who managed to find an excuse to say that the freaks shall inherit the Earth) sat back and watched the villain drown. And, though it’s the last thing that Dandy deserved, annoying bastard that he was, he won raves for his “performance.” “That boy is a star,” Desiree declared.

A STAR IS REBORN | Meanwhile, in Hollywood, Elsa paid repeated — futile — visits to the office of the president of the WBN network. When one evening the front-desk receptionist cattily suggested that the wannabe TV star change her act, because “Marlene did it better,” Fraulein Mars lost it and slapped her. During the ensuing fracas, Michael Beck (Neil Patrick Harris’ hubby, David Burtka) — the junior veep of casting — happened upon the scene and took pity on the chanteuse.
CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR | When next we checked in on Elsa, she was the award-winning star of
, miserably hitched to submissive Michael (now also her manager) and contractually obliged to do a Halloween special — and performing on Halloween is a big no-no, you’ll recall. But, after learning both that Massimo was dying and that Hedda Hopper had found out about her past as a porn star/freak show proprietress, Elsa decided that she would go on on Halloween after all.

ACT II | As Elsa knew he would, Edward Mordrake appeared while she was singing (Bowie’s “Heroes,” to be exact). However, while he did stab her, “Your place is not with us,” he revealed. Instead, she was sent to an afterlife replica of the freak show at which she was joyfully reunited with Ethel, Ma Petite and her whole family. When Else asked whether she’d have to pay for her sins, Ethel replied in the negative: Like Elsa had always said, stars never pay.
ALL’S WELL THAT ENDS WELL | Thankfully, it wasn’t only Elsa who got a happy ending. While she was giving her last performance on TV, Desiree caught a few seconds of it as she passed a storefront with Angus and their kids, and Jimmy (briefly) tuned in in the suburban home that he shared with a happily pregnant Dot and Bette.
Okay, your turn. What did you think of the episode? The season? When Edward Mordrake told Elsa that her place wasn’t with him, didn’t you think she was going to be reincarnated as Sister Jude at Briarcliff Manor? Grade the season finale via the poll below, then hit the comments to back up your choice!
What a disappointing end. AHS has always been hit or miss but I don’t think I’ll be returning for another season
I hate stupid comments like these. You act like it’s gonna be freakshow again next season
I agree with him. Last 2 seasons were terrible.
I hate stoopid comments like YOURS. WHY on is is his comment stupid just for saying that he is disappointed? Either you misplaced your remarks under the wrong person’s response, or you are a first class boob
This show has been gsrbage for two years now. Ryan Murphy doesn’t have more than two years of creativity in him for any one show. This is just trash at this point.
Definitely wasn’t the best finale they’ve had, especially with Elsa getting a happy ending, which she by all means did not deserve. She was slightly less one-dimensional than Fiona, thank goodness, but still a villain by all counts.
MVP of this season, like last season, absolutely Angela Bassett. Doesn’t even have to be a major part, she always kills it.
I think she deserved it! She was awful, sure, but also a victim of circumstance. She learned a ton from her various downfalls. I thought giving her forgiveness was a compassionate thing to do. Fiona, on the other hand, deserved exactly what she got.
Fiona was a good person, selfish and vain, but she had everyone’s best interest at heart. I mean think about it she could’ve sat back and let the witch hunters kill them all and she would’ve won.
He’s talking about Coven not Freak Show. Fiona was Lange’s character from that season.
The only interests Fiona had at heart were her own. She was ready to kill every single witch in that coven if they got in her way.
Elsa should have sung, Young and Beautiful by Lana Del Rey, i hope season 5 brings back Alien and HOPE its NOT a black and white shot season, like the tv
I also really hope we explore the aliens more, especially now that the door is open to revisit some things.
Far surpassed my expectations. I was ready to give up after episode one this year but it improved and the finale tied everything together deliciously.
What I got from it, is that Elsa and the others are caught in an in between world, like when a soul doesn’t actually go to the other side, because of their passing in a violent manner. Like Patrick Swazy’s character in the movie, Ghost. So now, these people are stuck, unless they can be convinced to go to the white light.
A great finale to another great season. Enjoy AHS very much and each season seems to top the one before…can’t wait to see Season 5.
I liked the ending, it made up for the so so episodes in the middle of the season. I hope the show gets another year as long as Jessica Lange is involved.
I would agree only if Jessica plays a type of character she hasn’t played before. Elsa is so similar to Fiona that it isn’t even funny. It has become stale and, sadly, to quote Dandy, very boring.
yes! you are point on! – lazy and stale writing … even more disappointing and frustrating b/c there was opportunity & potential. Dandy is like a good looking version of leonardo di caprio – and i love frances conroy … i think 90% of the show should’ve been about them & their backstory of inbreeding & scandal! –now THAT would be worth watching
Frances Conroy is a queen, and her parts keep getting shafted on this for other characters, and it’s just a shame.
I liked it for the most part, I think they only gave Elsa a happy send-off because this was probably Jessica Lange’s last season. I feel like it might have ended a little differently if she was coming back. Angela Bassett was fantastic as usual, I’d like to see her or Frances Conroy as our leading woman next season.
The whole season was sub par. Worst season yet. Did they change writers?
If you think it was worse than Coven, then wow.
I want an entire season of Myrtle Snow. The fashion, the hair, the post-revival voice. Love her!
Coven was great. Not sure why you need to be snarky to people who like it.
No, but Ryan Murphy discovered new pet projects, so his interest has dwindled on this one.
I think you may be right about Mr Murphy. I’m not ready to give up on the show hopefully they will get it together next season.
The kind of show this is with a new plot each season, should not have the same cast.
I love that the cast reinvents every season. Cant wait to see how they will play next season!
Your stupid you dont know about it i have seen this tv show since it started to the end
Absolutely the worst episode! I watched this show for weeks and this is how it ended? What a bummer…
I really liked it, I liked how they tied it all up. I did figure out that with Twisty and Edward coming back that it would have to be on Halloween and that he would have to take a freak with them. At first I assumed it would be Dandy but during the show I figured it wouldn’t be him since he’s not a freak and then I realized it would be Elsa.
But man when Dandy went on his shooting spree that was really disturbing but I thought it was really well done. Though I hate to see my favorite characters killed I do like when there’s a major killing spree on the show.
Now I’m looking forward to next season and to see what this talk is about the show making some changes to keep Jessica Lange around. I really hope they can, she’s the ultimate star of the show.
She whispered talked. I guess to sound sultry. But honestly, I had a hard time understanding half of what she said.
I would be happy is Jessica Lange played someone her own age for a change. Elsa Mars was just so bad I laughed every time she tried to sing or pretend she had talent. That is why I was a little disappointed in the ending. She sucked as a performer, plus the fact that she was NOT a freak so why was she taken by Mordrake?
Emma Roberts needs to be the star of show. Lange carried the show l, but lost interest midpoint.
I’m not sure that Emma Roberts could carry the show, in my humble opinion. I think she’s wonderful, yes, but if we are to choose a new leading lady, I’d rather see Frances Conroy or Angela Bassett or Kathy Bates. In the past few seasons, it’s been the older ladies (meant in all respect), rather than the younger ones, that have held my attention most.
I thought maybe I was crazy but Emma has been my favorite for the last two years. Her characters are always the most interesting and she was why I continued watching this season. I was disappointed in her death.
Terrible ending to the worst season yet. Even the ending of Coven was better than this. I was very disappointed and expected much more..
What a dull finale! But then it was a pretty dull season overall, and by far my least favourite of AHS, so I guess it fits. I’ll tune in again next season, probably; it can’t be any worse than this one.
Kilimanjaro offers a virtual climatic tour with views of exotic wildlife, fantastic
scenery. You should provide two target platforms with a hole
in the center. Recently 11 lives were lost on K2s deceptive slopes,
in the most horrible incident since 13 climbers died over a two-week span in 1986.
i dont know why people are saying that this is a worst season. its really not its just not as good as the last season. i do find the whole plot and theme entertaing and i like where it was going. if i can change one thing t would be to slow it down a little bit because the ghost guy episodes went by quick.
It felt like we got a rejected episode of Glee and not the actual AHS finale. FAIL
Much like Jessica Lange, I think it’s best for this show not to return.
This season was so over hyped that I couldn’t be too excited about this. It was an adequate ending, but it wasn’t anything spectacular.
Wow, how can you people say anything bad about that finale? It was marvelous. Perfect macabre horror. Dandy suffered horribly as he should. It was riveting from beginning to end.
I said to my friends with whom I was watching, “That ending was awesome. Nobody could be pissed at THAT” and yet I read here that people are disappointed. Holy hell, what do you expect? I dug it. Other than season one, this is by far the best season. So rich visually. So beautifully grotesque. So graphically violent. This season was a home run. Haters gonna hate. You’ll always find something to hate about everything. We were all entertained. The show took chances. Can’t wait for the next season.
After dandy died the last 30 mins were absolutely horrid and not even remotely horror. Hated that Elsa got a happy ending
The cinematography was stunning. This is part of why I watched this show. I think Elsa and the others who appeared with her at the end of finale, might be stuck in between worlds, having died so violently. Like Patrick Swazey in the movie “Ghost”.
So wait a minute: how far have we jumped from the time that Elsa dumped Pepper on Rita? Because Elsa was on the cover of the magazine that Pepper sorted in the asylum library, and Pepper’s in the asylum from 1964-ish until she dies in 1966…
When the head of the network visited her, she mentioned it had been eight years since she had come to Hollywood.
I think after season 2 (Asylum) all the other seasons just haven’t lived up to everyone’s expectations. I’m still a fan though and will return for season 5 (I hope Jessica Lange does too). I give this season a B+
The worst season, and the worst finale. Seriously, did the writers just not have a plan? “Is this Finale week? We better just kill everyone off.” Several people saying the finale “tied it all together”…. WTF. Are we watching the same show?? Twisty would have made such a better plot line than whatever I just watched. I dont even know what happened. A ton of death, and I think Neil Patrick Harris banged a doll at some point? Please god. Why. I am irritated I even stayed up to watch. Im bitching now, but, DUH, I’ll watch every moment of the next season. And from what I’ve heard, definitely not aliens. I miss season one.
Season One was the best. I miss Connie Britton, Dylan McDermott, and Taissa Farmiga. They made that season great.
Taissa is the wrong Farmiga to watch if you want to see good acting.
Odd season, really. Lots I loved, lots I hated and not much in between.
On the sucky side – the plot was atrocious. Full of plot holes, some really stupid characters and nothing really felt like it had any real flow to it. They sort of hop scotched from antagonist to antagonist and no one really developed as well as they could have. First Twisty, then the Museum sales jerk and then the Magician. Dandy was kind of the tie that binds on the baddy side of things – but everyone else seemed – meh.
There also wasn’t really a unifying fight in this season, either. First there’s the people in town growing suspicious with al the murders, then there’s a museum trying to collect them, a meglomaniacal owner and then of course – Dandy being Dandy.
I felt like the Jimmy character was *atrociously* acted and it was almost impossible to get behind him. There were also certain cast members – particularly Gabourey Sidibe and Jamie Brewer – seemed shoe horned into the proceedings..
On the good side – good god holy lord was that Pepper episode the best episode of any show on TV this year by a freaking *TON*. Beautiful acting, really engrossing story and just one of the most moving episodes of TV i’ve ever seen. For my money – it’s the best episode AHS has produced and it’s not even close.
And for all the plot holes -the season was on the whole – acted brilliantly. Jessica Lange was pretty solid but the total star was Finn Wittrock. Dandy’s going to be an all time great TV character – funny, terrifying, interesting – he was just outstanding. I’d also go as far as to say this was Sarah Paulson’s best season – not so much in the fact that the character(s) she played were the best or most well fleshed out – but that she was totally convincing as two different people simultaneously. Just so hard to do.
And the Freaks – mostly played by either amateur or not-as-well-developed actors – were fantastic as well. They deserve a huge tip of the cap and hung with some of the best in the biz.
Overall – I thought the season was a poor story – but great characters/actors really helped drag it through to a pretty enjoyable few weeks..
I really liked a vast majority of this season! And I enjoyed the finale, I think perhaps the reason some people disliked it is because it was so quick. You’re fifteen minutes into it and all of a sudden three-fourths of the remaining characters are dead, something that usually spans an entire season. I know that I was a little jolted by the pacing of the finale. It does feel a little like they tried to squish several episodes into one.
Although I do know that some people just found it a poor ending.
Overall, I was very pleased with this season, and I cannot wait to see what the next has in store!
Shock factor of killing almost all the freaks in like 20 minutes. Okay.
Ending – zzzzzz been there didn’t make sense done that
Glad for the “reinvention” next year but who knows how that will go with the spinoff, aka show by same creator with the words “american” and “story” in it, and too much time spent creating that and AHS probably second to it.
I hope Angela Bassett, Frances Conroy, and Kathy Bates come back but ONLY if they’re given fully thought out and widely used roles. And the guys that played Dandy, Mordrake, and Twisty, and obviously Evan Peters. I think the guy that played Paul would be good in a role like the creepy butler from Asylum, he seems to be a decent actor.
Oh and Jamie Brewer, she always does well in her roles. And NPH is always great in everything. I’d like Jessica Lange back but I fully understand why she wouldn’t.
Oh and obviously more Matt Bomer is never a no on my part. Maybe bring Kate Mara and for something new the guys from Burn Notice would fit in good, I forget his name that played Mike and of course Bruce Campbell fitting into the cast I would not mind.
Giving my thoughts? On that front I am for now. You have anything to actually contribute? Or were you politely waiting to see if I had anything else to add before you did?
Jeffrey Donovan (who played Michael) has already been cast for season 2 of Fargo.
Oh, I didn’t realize that. Thanks, I don’t really keep up with castings on shows I haven’t caught yet.
I loved the show and the finale!! Dandy was the most evil of all; he got to be a star!! ;). I’m glad Else was reunited w Ma Petite and everyone else–so what if it was a happy ending! I like happy endings!! I thought it was FAB! :)
I thought Dandy got off easy. They should of turned him into a meep. By the way, they didn’t show us what happened to Stanley after Dandy saw him as a meep. Elsa got off easy too for all the horrid stuff she did and what she said about her freaks that she did it for charity…talk about a hypocrite. I don’t get how Amazon Eve beat the crap out of Dell, but Dandy was able to overcome her…Come on. How was Jimmy able to see Mordrake in episode 4, but now all of a sudden he’s invisible? All in all this episode was a fail to me.
I was so disappointed with this finale! First of all Ryan Murphy said that twisty was going to make a “triumphant return” to the show which was not the case at all! He had one line and wasn’t even wearing his awesomely creepy face mask! Then there was the fact that basically everyone who mattered throughout the season died in the first 10 minutes…it kinda felt like Murphy didn’t know what to do so he just went for the biggest shock factor possible. Another thing I didn’t like was the final scene. I hated that it just cut off as Elsa is about to sing…I had my fingers crossed that something else would happen before the credits rolled but no such luck. I also felt like we were left with a lot of loose ends….like what happened to Stanley? I know the freaks hacked him up but we never saw him again after Dandy discovered him in the cage. And then there was Neil Patrick Harris’s character….I suppose they sent him to jail since he was on the run after the murder of his wife and her lover but it would have been nice to actually see what happened with that. I think I was so disappointed with this ending because I actually really loved most of this season but the final episode left me with more questions than answers :( I’ll still be tuning in for next season because I absolutely love this show and the amazing cast but what a bummer! As talented as he is I feel like Ryan Murphy could have done a much better job with this ending!
I said the same thing about Stanley. I love that actor since seeing him in True Blood.
Right! He is a brilliant actor and I also loved him on True Blood. That’s another ending to a show that I can’t even talk about because I get so upset haha
One more comment…sorry y’all! I like to go on tangents 😁 I definitely don’t think that Jessica Lange is coming back even though I was really hoping she would….throughout the season she is seen carrying her bag which I took as semi symbolic of her exit from the show. And then there was her line in the final episode:”always leave them wanting more”. Also the final scene totally felt like a send off. Anyone else not holding out much hope for her return? It’s going to make me so sad if she isn’t back next season but as long as Sarah Paulson, Angela Bassett, Frances Conroy and Kathy Bates return I think I’ll be okay (and Evan Peters of course…yummy!) I would also love to see Taissa Farmiga back on the show and I hope Lily Rabe returns with a much bigger role!
Elsa had a terrible beginning. What was done to her by the Nazi’s ruined her for life. You don’t recover from men raping you then removing your legs. She did love her freaks she just could never totally recover. I thought it was a very fitting end.
Yes, the word is “fitting.” It may not be great for everyone’s liking, but it wrapped the season up nicely.
Now is it the best season, or even a good one? Not sure. But definitely better than Coven
I feel like I’ve seen this ending on Lost already.
And as for the twins, there was a flash-forward early in the season that showed their torso in a jar in the freak museum. Are we just supposed to forget that? I was interested to see how that played out.
THANK YOU!! I thought I was the only one who felt the last 4-5 episodes felt like a LOST deja vu experience.
Freak Show was officially the worst season yet, but it’s still better than many other shows. I would have preferred more close-ups of Dandy’s wet white undies…yummm!! :-)
Well, at least Fiona got a better afterlife than last season’s.
I loved the season, but I did not like the ending it seem rushed, and not a popper send off.
It was one of the better episodes of the season but that’s not saying much. I’m not sure I’ll be watching the next season. I could possibly be talked into if Neil Patrick Harris was to star in it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this season of AHS. Freak Show was more nuanced then previous seasons and for this reason I found extremely interesting to watch. Personally I prefer a show that leaves a little more to one’s imagination than one that has to follow a connect all the dots formula.
Overall the casting and the acting was superb. The writing was excellent – some genuine nuggets in the story line.
Such a fan!!! LOVE THE STORY LINE AND ACTORS THIS SEASONN. ABIT GORY BUT STILL TOTALLY ENJOYABLE. JESSICA CANNOT LEAVE. PERIOD…AND FINN HAS A CAREER HERE. WHAT A FAB ACTOR!!! He played that part to a T!!!
I really am surprised with the comments… I thought this was the best season of AHS! It was mildly better than the first season (even though it was outstanding) but yeah this season was just excellent. I loved the ending… it’s not a sad one which is maybe what everyone was looking for but maybe that’s the ‘twist’ Ryan Murphy referred to. Overall, EPIC season filled with thrills, tears, and amusement. Cannot wait for season 5 and American Crime Story.
Absoluely agree with you. It was awesome season. Almost as great as Asylum. In my opinion every season is fabulous. Ryan Murphy perfectly handled topics he had chosen. Weakest is Coven compared to other season (although still great and still love it). Right now I’m so freakin’ excited for season 5.
Did anyone else notice that the receptionist at WBN looked and sounded a lot like Jennifer Aniston? It’s really bugging me. I checked the credits and the receptionist was listed as Vanessa Cloke, however, she really, really looks and sounds like Aniston. Perhaps this was an stealth cameo by the Jenster. What do you all think?
Yeah that massacre was F’D up I wanted Amazon Eve to really kick his ass which she did, but she should’ve snap that punk’s neck! Anyhow I liked the finale seeing some of these comments about it I mean I guess this is my first time watching AHS so….ain’t about jump in on the hate. Overall I say Jessica Lange should come back she is the face of show after all.
Oh my gosh I had a feeling it would be disappointing and it was! I mean…. Come on! There were so many ways it could have been better, with a big tie into asylum. Instead, this season was almost exhausting to watch. I feel so let down. It’s like, of everything they could have done, they chose instead to give us the most boring, most predictable ending. It’s like, Elsa becomes a big star and to show how it’s done, let’s just show an average Hollywood encounter where she just makes it without problem and becomes this huge star. Even Dandy’s demise wasn’t as good as it could have been. The best part was when Dandy just blew everyone away. I fear that the show has lost its edge and will never be as good as it was. Bringing in Neil Patrick Harris was the biggest fail of the season, followed be completely underusing Frances Conroy. I’m glad this season is over….it was a disappointment week after week, and indeed the best was the Halloween episode and the winter finale with Pepper’s story. Ugh….. #soletdown
I loved it until the last episode when Elsa gave her final performance in the afterlife. She takes the mike and all of a sudden the show ends! It was like they cut the end off! Very disappointing after spending time watching the season!
It was intentionally like that because she was about to start singing the same song she sang the very first time we saw her sing. The point is that she finally gets to do what she wants, perform and be with her freaks, without repercussion. Her actually singing didn’t matter.
I still liked the first season the best…horror and less sexual content. I think with a show like this you get one really good season and that’s it.
I agree that it was probably the most horrifying series, but there was still a decent amount of sexual content in the first season.
#1 – STOP with the updated music … if the producers INSIST on it, elsa’s “we can be heroes” should have been sung in german…this might have made it cool- In past seasons, the show used the awesome, vintage patience & prudence song – so we know that the knowledge was there…just not the wisdom. — that whole approach is distracting and affected. Also – when dandy is drowning … I got the uncomfortable feeling that his death would be foiled by the detective who shot the maid’s daughter – and whom was subsequently hired by dandy. – what happened to him anyway? – nonetheless, I liked that effect until I was certain that dandy, in fact, was doomed … BUT, the death was ungratifying. -my god – they made the guy who sold the freaks to the museum into a mini-meep!! … but all that dandy got was a drowning? -the writing seemed lazy. – i do, however, like how jimmy darling’s hands were the original lobster claws as opposed to normal hands … that was an interesting and memorable touch. – most importantly – STOP w/ the music! … whoever it is that thinks he’s being clever – he’s not
PS_ when elsa is killed onstage, and you see the smoke, but you don’t see edward moondrake & company … blah blah blah …. when she was stabbed, it SHOULD have shown her bleed instead of just falling over … what a wasted opportunity! … Did the writers have a flight they all had to catch and just say ‘ferk it – let the camera man decide on the day of shooting?’ – maybe not b/c the ending would probably have been better. – disappointed. – lazy lazy lazy writing
I am not going to lie, I felt bad for Elsa in a way(she was looking for love), but she still had an evil selfish streak. I think she should have been chastised for what she had done. Dandy DEFINITELY got what he deserved.
