Ever since this National government came into power it has systematically made it easier for big business (both local and international) to do what ever it needs/wants to do. It is evident all through National governmental changes, from opening up our land to foreign buyers, selling off our state assets, the SkyCity deal, NovoPay, total lack of alcohol reform, legitimate tax avoidance, the GCSB saga, etc etc. Even the school closures in Christchurch which, surprise, surprise will open up certain chunks of land that the government has had it's eye on for a while. And the lack of action around the Christchurch insurance issues because the government doesn't want to put pressure on its insurance company buddies.
Then Ты contrast those issues with the sustained attack on the disenfranchised. This government has repeatedly targeted people, particularly women, on benefits and students. Take for example the Последнее stuff about arresting student loan dodgers and crack downs on benefit fraud. Sure, those are important issues, but this government has attacked these disenfranchised groups (typically comprised of non-National voters) ahead of, for example, John Key's tax avoiding buddies. In fact, John Key has made it much easier for big businesses to dodge billions of dollars worth of taxes, and instead aims to gather the money his government needs by taking it from the already struggling, from foreign buyers, from selling our country off and from big business payoffs.
So, the point of my ranting is that John Key is еще than comfortable ignoring the needs and wants of his people if it means getting on the good side of big business. 80% of NZers do not want his fucking asset sales. The majority want significant alcohol reform. But this National government will never risk pissing off big businesses. The needs of the oil companies come before the needs of NZers, in John Key's mind.
Futhermore, the people who this bill will impact on are people who are most likely already anti-John Key and the National government. So he doesn't give a crap about these kinds of people. The people who will benefit from this kind of bill are National voters или people/companies who will reward the NZ government for this kind policy. Basically, Key is whoring us out, big time. Key has proven that he is ready and willing to ignore the will of the people, no matter how strong that will is. This bill is simply a continuation of that attitude and it will continue as long as John Key is in charge.
And so concludes my anti-government conspiracy rant.
