10. Aladdin
9. ?

I may change my animation. But my beef with TLM is how little they utilized backgrounds, and how everything is lined in black. A point about this countdown I'd like to make is I love TLM's animation, the style and flow screams Disney to me. But it has never impressed me even as a child. Another example is I'm not particularly fond of Pocahontas's style compared to other DP films, but it constantly impresses me. The use of colour, the lines, the movement. It's gorgeous and amazing.

It doesn't impress me as much as the other ones do.

In my opinion Aladdin has the best animation. Anyway Sleeping Beauty's animation is bland, dull, boring, plain, unimpressive, not interesting, and most of the Disney sequels have better animation and that's saying something.

@KataraLover it's not about the best animation, it's about the most impressive. The work and detail put into Sleeping Beauty makes it leaps and bounds more impressive than Aladdin, which is relatively simple. Factor in how old both movies are, and Sleeping Beauty wins.

Sorry but the animation is part of what's suppose to be impressive, at least for me anyways. To me it's dull and the only time it's impressive to me is during the gifts, Aurora when she's just background art when she's sleeping, Maleficent's appearance and disappearance, and Maleficent's transformation.

I agree with Jessikaroo. Considering a lot of the film is set in the ocean, the animation could have been so much more beautiful and breathtaking. The animation is fine, I have no problems with the movements of the characters, but it could have been so much better at the same time.

At first I was going to vote out Mulan, but then I remembered the battle at the pass, and that was IMPRESSIVE.
The Little Mermaid's animation was very nice, but that's really all you can say for it. It was very fluid and everything, but they were capable of that in Snow White. The underwater moments never really seemed underwater to me, it just looked like there was cool lighting, and there were a few bubbles. They definitely could have done a lot more with that. Also, with movies like Sleeping Beauty, there is so much detail in the background, and we see that with all the other ones but Snow White and Mulan, and Snow White was still pretty detailed as well as being the first animated movie, and in Mulan that was part of the style of the animation, and even then there were nice colors and whatnot. In TLM most of the backgrounds (or at least a fair number of them) are just a lot of varying colors of gray swirled around, which (and this is a personal thing) really bother me. While the animation is undoubtedly lovely, there is really nothing that you could classify as impressive about it.

The minor character's (like random people and fish) faces look strange in my opinion, they are not that impressively done- that's just a personal issue I have with it. Plus it just doesn't stand out as being breathtaking like the others, it's relatively ordinary in my opinion. And I agree with the above comments talking about the potential of the ocean scenes.

The underwater scenes are mostly pretty, but overall there's hardly anything in in the whole movie (in terms of animation), which is very impressive!

I wouldn't mind "The Little Mermaid" going first, because people have a point about the backgrounds, but this movie at least excells in the animation of water and Ariel's hair. And the final battle is impressive.
As much as I love Mulan, the Animation is a little bit lazy at parts. For example that the number of the soldiers in Shang's troup conveniently dwindles in some scenes. Yes, the fight at the pass looks good, but that's more or less an improved version of the stampede in Lion King. I like some of the Art Work, and when they reference the chinese watercolour style, but they are not that consistent with the style. Cinderella for example is consistent in the use of empty space, Mulan isn't.
So, as much as it hurts, and as great as the work on the characters themselves are, my vote goes to Mulan.

@Katara Lover You really think that the Disney Sequels have a better animation than any of the regular Disney movies????

LatinoLollipops picked Pocahontas:
Pocahontas's animation was just lazy I'm sure everyone is just looking at the sequence 'colours of the wind' and thinking it's art! it really does bore me and the bears in that looked out of proportion anyway a long with everything else. It's not impressive or to my taste I would have said Aladdin I did love the colours, designs and backgrounds but the 3d wasn't very well mixed with the 2d as well as Aladdin and Jasmines eyes were on occasion drawn really weirdly.. but maybe that's just me. As much as I love Sleeping Beauty's artwork she would be next only because it was nothing that really amazed me as a child and have only learnt to appreciate it now also it's not as.. stunning? as the other Princess Movies.. I really like how they designs Auroras dress to merge with the animation though hehe

I've always been fascinated by The Little Mermaid animation! Ariel's movements in the water are sinuous, I love the colors and the final battle was great, in my opinion!

Like I said before, 3D animation may have been impressive in Toy Story, but not anymore.
The Little Mermaid's animation is amazing, the colors, the shapes, everything is so pretty!

@Popcornfan Isn't that like saying that none of the movies which came after Snow White are impressive? There is a vast difference between the animation in Tangled and the animation in Toy Story (mainly the fact that Tangled actually animated convincing hair).

@fiina no problem...btw, I posted an article about the theme. No ranking, just a general overview about the development of animation in the different movies and how they impacted animation in general.

I love all of them but if I have to choose I'd say The Little Mermaid. Compare to the others I don't think there was so much detail put into the backgrounds. Still it has some great animation moments. The Under the Sea and Part of Your World sequences are amazing! I love the way Ariel's hair moves under water. The battle with Ursula is also nicely animated. Well anyway, this is my next pick but I still love TLM's animation style.

Swanpride I can think of several right off top of my head that have better animation than Sleeping Beauty. Ariel's Beginning, Return To The Sea, Return To Neverland, Scamp's Adventure, A Twist In Time, Enchanted Christmas, Mulan 2, Journey To The New World, Tarzan 2, The Fox and The Hound 2, Simba's Pride, The Lion King 1 1/2, An Extremely Goofy Movie, Patch's London Adventure, Stitch Has A Glitch, Bambi 2, and Brother Bear 2.

Yeah, because those movies are abolutely overflowing with background details - (Not!) - and have a perfectly flowing animation which doesn't show the use of computers at all - (Not!).

Ick, a lot of those sequels had cringe worthy animation. Especially Return to the Sea and the Enchanted Christmas.
