New details emerge about filming in Spain 

El Pais preparation has already begun for filming in Osuna, Spain at a bullfighting ring called appropriately enough Plaza de Toros beginning October 17th. In addition, the article has some new details about what scenes will be filmed at the Real Alcázar de Sevilla starting on October 10th.

El Pais is reporting that 500 extras are being fitted for slave costumes in Osuna and that a certain scene featuring Daenerys will involve over one thousand extras–the rest of the thousand probably being made up of Unsullied soldiers.  Of course, Sullied viewers know this is probably going to be the much anticipated Daznak Pit scene.  There are

also occur in Osuna at El Coto Las Canteras, the Collegiate Church of our Lady of the Assumption or the old University.  El Coto de las Canteras appears to have been a rock quarry that was converted into an concert hall and auditorium and is quite beautiful. Photos of the three sites are at bottom.

To add to the excitement unnamed sources in the article have reported that Peter Dinklage will be arriving shortly so this would further cement the idea that Tyrion will be present at the Pit scene.  Alas, no word on the presence of Penny.

In addition, preparation at the Real Alcázar de Sevilla will begin on October 6th with filming to begin four days later on the 10th.  People who have been or will be working on the site have not only confirmed outdoor shots but are also saying there will be an indoor dining scene as well.  What scene do you think they will be filming?

If done right, that scene will be mind blowing. And they are off to a good start for sure!

I guess this is more like “official, official” confirmation, but this is all stuff that we already knew, right?

When I saw “major spoilers” I got excited. I’m pretty well satiated with the Braavos, Dorne, King’s Landing, Meereen news, it’s fairly clear what’s happening in all those storylines.

I’m guessing the other storylines are more centred in Northern Ireland where not as much in the way of leaks seem to surface. Too bad.

And if you haven’t read these essays, which I stumbled across a while back, you definitely should. They explain Dany’s storyline – and Jon’s – extremely well and have added tremendously to my understanding and enjoyment of the whole series. Tyrion in the same place as Dany would sure be one to Unsullied.

And I suppose King Tommen does have a point … we haven’t, for instance, seen or heard much of, say, Brienne, Pod or Sansa in quite some time in terms of being spotted while filming. Which is not to complain — it just may mean better security in NI, or just that they are doing a lot more indoor filming in studios.

Comment for anyone with post production or set location work, this is concerning the Osuna Plaza de Toros. The lightpoles around the interior of the arena, will GoT crew remove them for filming, could be expensive; drape them with banners, or cgi over them (which could be more expensive and prohibitive considering extras will be in the seats).

Okay, added a map to the post above. It was really hard to find the location of El Coto (the Quarry) for some reason. Anyway, I’m 90% certain those are the correct locations.

One could also see it positively because Dany finally rides a dragon but we later learn that she hasn’t really fully trained Drogon because she can’t make him fly where she wants. So overall it’s famous but not in a good way, hence “infamous”.

No, I don’t think we knew just how many extras and if we did, did we know what they would be wearing? Also, I thought the news that there was to be an indoor dining scene at the Alcazar to be new. And finally, Tyrion being present had not yet been confirmed and since we hadn’t any news of Penny it was unclear if he would end up in Daznak’s Pit (we all hoped but weren’t sure). But if that’s all old news, then mea culpa.

I get your reasoning for describing the scene at Daznak’s Pit as “infamous”, since it is a negatively game-changing event for many characters, but honestly it just reads like you are saying the chapter has been badly received.

But she kind-a-sort-a does control Drogon in her final chapter.

My only real concern for the Daznak scene is…

How will Dany riding the Dragon look. Always a worry having CGI interacting with real actors like that.

Probably shouldn’t be too worried, I guess… they had Giants riding Mammoths last season, and they were great. And the standard of the CGI has been amazing throughout, getting better with each season. I hope we get an Inside the Episode, and the VFX reel for it, when it’s aired, just to see how they do it.

Must admit to feeling the same. It’s nice to know things are coming together nicely in those areas and stories we know about but I’m yearning for just some hints of what’s happening to the other characters.

Do you guys think they could turn the exterior Canteras site into the Temple of the Graces? If shot right, and with the adequate amount of green screen/CGI, it could make a beautiful entrance for it. It’s old and hard and primitive but with the right amount of culture and.. well, grace.

And I’m guessing the banquet/interior dining stuff is related to Dany’s wedding, which they might blend with the Yunkai party. Too bad Xaro won’t be showing his face any time soon, though. :c

If done correctly, the Daznak’s Pit scene will be fucking spectacular. Imagine all this happening simultaneously:
