It was real. If Jason tied a string to Grant's collar, you would have seen the string. I don't believe Grant and Jason would fake anything. I remember an episode where TAPS investigated in season 4 where they debunked everything from the lights moving to laughter in the women's bathroom. They seemed pissed the place was more of a fun house than haunted.
