Why do people obsess so much over celebrities?

I totally agree. Знаменитости are people too, just like us. Yes, there are a few out there that have pretty good acting/singing skills, and I do like some of them, but I wouldn't try to stalk them. Chances are, I don't even know their personality, and who they truly are. Now, fictional characters...that's another thing. xD

Because their famous. And amazing. And talented. And gorgeous.

It's because to some, they're Герои and inspirations. They give young kids something to aspire to be. They can give Ты hope and once Ты get to know a celebrity well enough Ты can start falling in Любовь with them, not in a creepy stalker way but in a really true way. Ты start to care about them, because yes, they are human, and that makes everything they've accomplished even еще amazing. It doesn't matter if Ты ever meet them face-to-face, it's enough to support them through everything they do.

I suppose none of the people I've come to care so much about would actually qualify as "celebrities," people like Austin Carlile and Kellin Quinn, but I get the feeling. These guys save lives, and fuck they've gotten me through some of the worst times of my life, and I feel like I owe them a lot. That's why I care so much about them. And no I haven't met either of those guys yet, but the thing is, I know their Фаны mean the world to them. Austin says it all the time, and he's been moved to tears when people chant his name at shows. It's really amazing how much we can mean to him. And the benefit? It's a family. It's all the people Ты meet because of your obsessions. It's the way Ты can make a new friend in ten секунды because Ты have that one person in common. It's how they make Ты feel like Ты can accomplish so much and how they are your inspiration to just keep going.

So that's why I think people obsess so much over these people. ^^

The same reason they obsess over fictional characters.

They become attached to them. Very simple really.
