SPOILER ALERT! If you have not yet watched the 2-hour season finale of ‘Scream Queens,’ do not read any further. HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY interviewed one of the killers and this person revealed a lot of behind-the-scenes secrets and hinted at a possible Season 2 return!
Now that you’ve (hopefully) watched the 2-hour season finale of
— which was both totally insane and epically amazing — it’s time to find out all the details behind that shocking final scene and what’s in store for Season 2. One of the killers, who we’ll refrain from naming until after the jump, spoke out in an EXCLUSIVE interview with HollywoodLife.com and answered all your burning questions!
“Pete was definitely the killer, who killed four different people on the show. It was pretty crazy,” Diego Boneta told HollywoodLife.com in an EXCLUSIVE interview. And crazy it was. But Diego didn’t find out he was the killer until four days before he shot the final scene. “[The cast] had absolutely no idea. We were kept in the dark the entire time,” Diego said before adding that he hoped to be the killer from the very beginning. “I told [creator] Ryan [Murphy] that I wanted to be the red devil. And I’m so happy because as an actor, you always try to look for characters that have very rich arcs. And Pete had that. He started off being this investigative reporter dude, kind of like the hero, anti-fraternity, anti-Kappa — he was kind of like the romantic guy in the show with Grace (Skyler Samuels). You know, you were kind of rooting for them, but there were weird secrets there. He had that red devil costume, and there were other little parts throughout the series that made you wonder, but for the most part, you thought this guy was like the boy next door.” Pete was actually a double agent and the other red devils were going to kill him unless he murdered Roger (Aaron Rhodes).

And the final scene, during which Pete told his story and actually defended his horrific actions, lasted an entire act (13 pages of script to be exact). “It was the longest scene I’ve ever shot in my life — my favorite scene I’ve ever shot in my career,” Diego told us. And the best part about it, according to him, was that “the dialogue in the scene was so brilliantly written. And the lines I was given to justify my actions was really really interesting. I was just honored that I got to play that and had fun doing it.”
Diego had fun filming the scene, but unfortunately, his character, Pete, didn’t survive the finale. He actually got killed by Lea Michele‘s character, and what’s crazy about that scene is that “during Season 1 Episode 11, where [Pete] was on the phone talking to someone, and [he] went to the closet and looked at that red devil costume, in the last take, the director pranked me and had one of the prop guys be inside the closet and scared the s*** out of me. And then that’s how they actually ended up killing my character on the show. But in the final version, it was Lea’s character in the closet. Just when I was about to tell Grace who the last killer is, I got killed. It was the exact same way I was pranked, without initially knowing that’s how I was going to die.” So funny!
Diego concluded by saying that shooting the finale was a total “roller coaster.” And after watching it, we think that was the perfect way to describe it because it felt the same way while watching it! There’s no word if Diego will return for Season 2, despite his death, but he said they should be discussing that “soon.” We’ll keep our fingers crossed!
