Not Your Typical Country Girl Chapter Forty One
Clay's POV
Harmony had to know. She heard the gunfire. We had to put him down. He was horrible when we got to him. It was a big pack of coyotes.
How were we going to tell her? She's going to be devastated.
"This is what she gets for leaving a horse out," Lance grumbled, "now we have to deal with him!"
"Look she didn't know any better. We have to look at this like its her first time at everything around here," Dad said, "now go get a tarp and cover the horse up. I'll call someone about him. Then go change, so Ты can start working."
Dad was right. We can't assume Harmony knows everything like we do.
Me and Finn headed to the house while Lance went to find the tarp. I was in shorts and shirt. That wouldn't cut it for working on a farm.
"Thanks a lot," Finn mumbled as he walked past Harmony.
"Go change," I сказал(-а) as I pushed him passed her.
"Where did Midnight Moon," she asked worried, "did he get spooked when Ты shot at the coyotes? I'm sure he did!"
"Actually, we have to put him," I tried to say as sensitive as possible, "when we got to him, the coyotes had attacked him."
"I'm so sorry Abigail," Harmony said, "you gave me a horse and I didn't take care of him at all! I didn't know that coyotes would do that!! I didn't even know there were that many coyotes here!"
"It's okay, Ты didn't know," mom said.
"What can I do," Harmony asked as she turned towards me.
"Nothing really. If you're okay Ты can start your chores," I said, "are Ты okay?"
"Yeah, I do that right away," Harmony сказал(-а) as she ignored my question.
I knew she was upset; I could tell with the way she carried herself. She slouched her shoulders and she starred at the floor as she walked upstairs.
I wondered what I could do to cheer her up. I didn't wanna see her down over this horse. Although, she acted like that horse was her best friend. I felt terrible for her. Finn and Lance were so mad that they had to start extra early for this. They would probably give her grief for this. Everyone around here knows that Ты don't leave a horse in a pasture by himself. But she is new to all of this. We have to remember that!
Mom got started on breakfast as I was coming back downstairs from changing. I saw Harmony at the back door, staring outside at the blue tarp.
"How long has she been there," I whispered to mom.
"Just a few minutes," mom said, "I hope she is going to be okay!"
"Well I was trying to think of something to cheer her up but I don't know what," I said.
"Well, Ты could go somewhere when they come pick up the horse," she said.
"Good idea! I can teach her how to drive. She'll have to learn soon! Her birthday is coming up soon," I said.
"That's right. Clay, that is a great idea," mom сказал(-а) smiling.
"Okay, I'll do that," I said, "thanks mom!"
I got to the back door and Harmony was gone. I look towards the сарай and the door was cracked.
I couldn't wait to teach her how to drive. It was going to be fun! I was excited. I hope she will be just as excited as I am.
I headed towards the сарай to go ahead and ask Harmony if she would like to learn to drive. I slide the door open and I didn't see her. I looked in the empty stalls to see is she was cleaning one of them. But she wasn't; she was sitting in Midnight Moon's stall.
"How could I be so careless," she asked as she looked up at me.
"It wasn't your fault; Ты didn't know any better," I сказал(-а) as I leaned against the stall wall.
"I should have ask one of y'all if it was alright," she said.
"It will be okay," I said, "do Ты wanna do something different today?"
"Different? Everyday is different except for the chore part," she сказал(-а) as her tears dried slowly.
"Okay," I сказал(-а) with a laugh, "Wanna learn how to drive?"
"What would I be driving," she asked excitingly.
"My truck," I stated.
"Oh wow. It's so big," she said, "Are Ты sure about that?"
"Positive," I said, "it'll be after breakfast sometime."
"Okay," she сказал(-а) as she got up, "I better finish work."
Harmony's POV
I couldn't believe it. I got my horse killed. My best friend in this new place. Now he is gone.
I knew what Clay was doing. He was trying to get me out of the house so I wouldn't see what happened to that horse.
I sat at the таблица eating my breakfast. It was silent. Lance или Finn is mad at me. It what causing a little bit of tension at the ужин table. But it is alright; I am mad at myself too.
Once breakfast was over with. I started cleaning the таблица off. This was definitely my least Избранное thing to do. I hated doing dishes; I would rather be outside then doing this.
"Hey Harmony, let's go," Clay сказал(-а) as he came from the living room.
"I have to finish this first," I stated.
"Go ahead; I'll finish this," Abigail said.
"Are Ты sure," I asked.
"Yeah it's not a problem," she smiled sweetly, "y'all be careful!"
"Okay," I said.
I had to admit. I was a bit nervous about driving. I haven't ever driven anything and I am about to drive this big ole truck. It was kid of exciting too.
I followed Clay to his truck, he got to the driver side door and turned around to look at me. He was had a huge smile on his face.
"Here ya go," he сказал(-а) smiling.
Clay threw the keys at me and I caught them like I would a football.
"Are Ты sure I can do this," I asked.
"Sure Ты can," he сказал(-а) with confidence.
"Shouldn't I start out with something smaller," I asked nervously.
"Nope," he сказал(-а) as he walk to the other side of the truck, "get in!"
"But riding the motorcycle would be easier, wouldn't it," I asked meekly.
"Nope," he repeated.
"Okay," I сказал(-а) meekly.
I opened the door and got in. Even though it was a big truck; it didn't feel huge when I was sitting behind the wheel. I not short but I am not really tall either. I guess I am average. It was easy to sit and look out of this truck. I did not expect that.
"Okay, can Ты see out the mirrors," he asked.
"I think so," I сказал(-а) unsure.
"Yes или no," he said.
"Ummm, yes," I сказал(-а) almost laughing.
"Okay, сиденье, место, сиденья belt," Clay stated.
"Right," I сказал(-а) after I took a deep breath.
"Now, put the key in the ignition and turn it," he said.
I did as he told me. I felt and heard the truck as it started up. It was loud and a bit intimidating. I sat there for a секунда and just took in this moment. It felt weird to be sitting behind the wheel.
"Are Ты ready to drive," Clay asked.
I could tell he was excited. He was way еще excited than I was.
"Sure," I said.
"Okay, press down on the break and put it into drive," he said.
"Okie dokie," I сказал(-а) as I did what he told me to do.
"Now, lightly let off the break," he сказал(-а) as I did.
"Hey we are going! We are moving," I said.
"Good job," he сказал(-а) laughing, "now lightly press the break to come to a stop."
I tried to do as he told me. I kinda jerked us when I did
"It's alright," he said, "now let up and start going again. This time press the escalator."
I did as he told me and we sped up.
"Whoa," I said.
The truck rumbled under me. It got louder the longer I pressed the escalator.
"It's alright. Ты are doing fine," he сказал(-а) reassuring, "it's not the stock exhaust that came on it so it's loud."
"Oh okay," I said.
I had a fun time learning to drive. It wasn't as hard as I thought it was. I eventually got use to the size of the truck.
We got back to the house and I went straight to the barn. I had a lot of stuff to get done. I would be behind in everything since we took off to go riding this morning. It was going to be a long day!
