Are Jack and Rose based on a true story?

I don't know what exactly happened to the real Titanic, only what the movie portrays.
So I was wondering if the director got the idea from a survivor and if anyone knew.

No they are not real. They are fictional. Titanic's sinking is very interesting but writer and director Jim Cameron wanted to spice it up and made a Любовь story out of the 1912 sinking of Titanic.

No, it's not based on a true story. The sinking of Titanic, that really happened. Some characters were real, and were on board the Titanic. Like Molly, Andrews, Captain Smith, Ismay, and еще I'm sure. However, the characters Jack and Rose are fictional.

Sorry to say, they are not. James Cameron made it up so audiences could get a sympathetic view and really feel for the 1912 marine disaster. And in my opinion, his goal really was accomplished!
