Kate left early the Далее morning. She bid Humphrey and CJ goodbye. Her body pained in hunger, she was weak and didn't know how far she could go. She walked for hours and didn't see anything. Kate moved toward the high mountains where she knew that the caribou would be hiding at. When she got there she found nothing. For days she searched and finally could not go any further.

Kate lay down, the pads on her feet were cut up and bleeding. Her body was exhausted and in a lot of pain from constant travel. After laying around for a few hours she got up and continued on her way. It was a beautiful spring день and all around her the signs and sound of life were returning from the long dead winter. Birds flitted about the trees and sang merrily.

Kate came to a ledge, she put her paws on the edge and looked down into the coolly beneath her. The ground that her front paws were on gave way and she went tumbling violently down the coolly. It hurt and she just lay there ready to give up. She would die out here and she knew it, it was only a matter of time before it happened. She cringed at the thought that CJ would never get to see his mother again, she would never get to watch him grow up.

She herd heavy footsteps walking toward her. She felt something lifting her up in its arms and carrying her away. She did not try and fight it at all.
