Azula seemed to treat Ty-Lee rather nicely. The only time I feel like Azula ever did something questionable to Ty-Lee was when she tried to get her to join her. But after that things went pretty smoothly. She even apologizes to Ty-Lee after hurting the girl's feelings. And in The Drill after they lost she didn't seem to even yell at Mai or anything for not helping them. Azula may not know how to love properly but I think she did her best. I also think there have been many worse friendships. Like she didn't seem to be using them or anything, and she never really bullied them.
That's a good point. There have been better friendships, but also worse. I feel as thought the loyalty rather than true friendship is due in part to that social awkwardness, exploited in The Beach. True friendship seems to be out of her comfort zone, something she's just doesn't know how to do.
Despite her claims, she's not a people person.
I do feel sorry for her. She mistook fear and loyalty for friendship. She never had anyone to teach her otherwise. When she finally figured it out for herself it broke her. Ty-lee and Mai did care about her but she didn't see what she had until it was too late.
The whole royal family was just messed up. Exactly what I was thinking. She doesn't know how to love or form a stable bond and she doesn't know how to recognize one. And I do hope she eventually figured out how. I just feel so bad for the fire siblings.
Plus the fact that she didn't always talk about her feelings like Zuko did and just kept them bottled up didn't exactly help. If you keep something bottled up for too long without letting it out, it will usually not end good. That's perfectly shown when she's having her hallucination of her mother. She never talked about her feelings, besides a brief moment in The Beach episode, so when she was feeling betrayed, scared of being betrayed again, and vulnerable, her emotions about her mother and betrayal were coming out. Boy, Azula sure has a lot of psychological problems, which makes her an interesting character.
That too. Azula just isn't one to share her feelings with people. A show no weakness type thing. And as you said, it's not good to do. I'm the same way, I don't really do the feeling sharing thing. And when it comes out, it really comes out. >.>
Yes she was ,she was a bad friend ever since she was little , she used fear to control people and make them 'loyal' to her and sorry but that's exactly why i don't like her.Yeah she was kind to them at some points but only when they agreed with her and things went her way, when Ty Lee didn't want to come with her she set the ground on fire and that could have killed Ty Lee, is that what you call a good friend?!. Sorry but she treated people bad and got what she deserved .And even if she was taught to act that way, she had a mind of her own and she could have choosen to become a different person , but she didn't .
I think she did that because it's the only way she really knew how to form a relationship with others; it's all her dad really showed her how to do. And as a person of political status it's what she was used to. I don't know, I think she was nicer to them anyways--like she didn't get her way on The Beach but she was still apologizing to Ty-Lee for being jealous. I do agree that she kind of had the betrayal coming. But I still feel bad for her and as Min and I discussed she'd didn't really realize what she had until the it was too late to salvage. That's actually a lot easier said than done. Zuko was raised the same way and I very highly doubt he would have changed for the better with Iroh's help. If hate is all you've ever seen how are you supposed to know love? Azula needed at least a little positive guidance, if she got it maybe she could have made that choice. Not to mention she has an obscured mental state--such makes it even harder to see right from wrong. In my opinion it really isn't as simple as choosing to become a better person; she does indeed have a mind of her own but it is tainted by insanity and being taught the wrong things as a child. And when that happens it's really hard to break whether you want to or not.
@avatar_tla_fan And thank you.
