If he has never spoken to Ты he might not really know you
Look at it this way. If he would have сказал(-а) no he would be дана a lot of crap
If he сказал(-а) yes he'd have to deal with people making a big deal of it and или teasing him
Its called being safe.

So Ты two have never spoken? How do Ты expect him to want to be your boyfriend if Ты never talk? And he probably called Ты his friend to be polite. He probably didn't want to say he didn't know you. Unless he likes you. There's always that "love at first sight" thing I guess.

i can help by telling this:
my friend for some odd reason asked a guy if he liked me. (probably 'cuz she thought we looked cute together even though we'd never talked)
he сказал(-а) the same thing... and he never spoke to me... and we went to the same class for 3 years... :|
