Another movie changed up this week and this one isn’t technically a cult film. Boy, now the schedule is useless and the name of Cultober is useless. That being said, who wants to talk about Halloween, a franchise that hasn’t had a good movie since the first one forty years ago. Well, low and behold, we may have gotten something great. After years of bad sequel after bad sequel, could 2018’s Хэллоуин finally be the film we’ve been waiting for? Let’s find out. Also, this is a spoiler free review, so don’t worry.
The film takes place forty years after the events of the first Halloween, redconning everything that had ever happened before, which I am perfectly fine with. Michael Myers, now a sixty one год old man, is still a psychopath, and is prepared to escape the asylum that holds him in. And he does, and continues his killing spree in Haddonfield, Illinois once again. But he’s not the only one back, as Laurie Strode, now a mother and grandmother, has been waiting for Michael for years, preparing herself to finally kill him once and for all, believing that tonight will finally be her chance to end this. Now this movie does do a lot of nods to the original film, but some would consider it to just be repeating the same stuff again. Especially how Michael escapes and asylum patients are wandering around the area. Thankfully, the film does enough different things to make it еще unique in it’s own way.
Michael is as threatening as ever in this film. A friend of mine considered slashers like Michael, Leatherface, and the first cases of Jason Voorhees to be the superhuman killers, and Michael is pretty strong for a human slasher villain. The first kills of the movie are just with his bare hands, going around and breaking people’s necks and jaws with no effort. In fact, now that I think about it, a lot of people in this film get killed by their necks being broken. At least four people. Don’t worry, there’s enough variety in the kills to keep it interesting. And people Любовь to talk about how Laurie Strode is played by Jamie Lee Curtis again, and I like that too, but Nick замок returning for the role of Michael Myers is just as great to hear, even if Michael was played by several people, but details
Laurie Strode is amazing in this film. She’s not the typical slasher movie victim that screams and runs. No, fuck that. She picks up a shotgun and tells Michael to come get her. But Michael’s not stupid. He knows now to run up to a woman who has a gun. He waits, patiently, for her to Показать up. But she knows him as well, and she’s ready to kill him as much as he’s ready to kill, well, anyone. Seeing these two clash and finish what they started feels like everything has finally come full circle, and it really does bring the franchise to a satisfying conclusion.
If I had to have one thing I don’t like about this movie, I think the scenes with Laurie’s granddaughter and her Друзья are unbearable to sit through. They just give off this obnoxious teen vibe and they are just there to be the kinds of slasher victims that scream and cry and can’t do shit. It’s just kind of unbearable at times. But it’s short enough to not ruin the entire movie, so Ты can be thankful that the worst parts are brief.
So yes, I can Подтвердить that, finally, we have two good Хэллоуин movies. It took a long time to do it, but we got it. Хэллоуин 2018 is a film that, may not become a cult classic, but is a film that will satisfy Фаны of the series, and give closure to the franchise…. Until Hollywood decides to continue the franchise and screw it all up again. Check it out, it’s a well recommended film for the Хэллоуин season
