Fans have known for a while now that Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are no longer mutants in Marvel Comics. Their new origins however, have remained a mystery, with theories on their powers ranging from Inhuman lineage to genetic tampering. But finally, those guesses can come to a close.
As revealed in the publisher’s new preview of Uncanny Avengers #4, Wanda and Pietro Maximoff are indeed not the children of Magneto, but of humans Marya and Django Maximoff. So how did they get their powers? Much like their Marvel Cinematic Universe counterparts, Scarlet and Quicksilver’s abilities now derive from genetic testing. As the preview shows, Marvel villain the High Evolutionary took the twins from their birth parents and conducted all sorts of genetic experiments on them. Afterward, he returned them to their parents and “disguised” them as “common mutants” (as one does).
So there you have it. Pietro, Wanda, and the rest of the Marvel Universe were only tricked into believing that they were mutants. But what do you think of this ret-con, readers? Check out the full explanation in the Uncanny Avengers #4 preview, by Rick Remender and Daniel Acuna, then sound off in the comments.

Just another way of Disney & Marvel saying fine you don\'t want to give us back the rights? ok, then we\'re going to change everyone\'s history in Marvel that doesn\'t belong to us in the films.
Deadpool? Nah doesn\'t belong to us, kill him off till Fox gives up
Fantastic Four? "Let\'s cancel their comics"
Disney wants their characters for more potential on the film universe & more money
They weren\'t Magneto children the first 20 years of their history.
And every comic character has like 20 origin stories so far. The comic has been good imo so I really don\'t care.
This has sicken me, to kill off a history between Magneto and his children just please new reader unacceptable.
Wolverine- yeah because they never kill any other character and they NEVER come back.
Deadpool- He died because of the secret wars, along with every other character on earth.
Fantastic Four- the don\'t selling comics. Also, Marvel cancelled more comics but hey let\'s focus on the one that let us complain about the Disney/Fox situation.
Umm... Neither part of this true. You\'re just wrong.
Further proof that Marvel are \'dissing\' The X-Men in particular, and Mutants in general, just because they sold the rights. Bloody CHILDISH!!!
I liked them being magnetos kids... Ment they were related to Polaris as well... Oh well at least she\'s still magnetos daughter until they retcon that as to
Does that mean Marvel studios can keep the rights and bring back Quicksilver because killing him off in the Age of Ultron film was really disappointing. I want to see him in the new Avengers lineup.
He\'ll be back, maybe in the box that created The Vision or someone uses the infinity gauntlet. But I\'m sure he\'ll be   back.
Lmao what are you talking about? Please use your head. I wasn\'t even complaing, I was simply stating what they are doing hahaha
i guess it really is not any different to turning Iceman gay in the marvel universe just that this changes there origins. SO basically if you were not allowed to complain about that as many people were saying then you cannot complain about this
I laugh everyone berates Marvel/ Disney over wanting their own property back. All Disney is doing is trying to clean up the shit fest that Marvel caused because they were too desperate to save themselves. So they sold film rights. Everyone needs to remember that at the end of the day it\'s all about your I.P\'s and this a business. You can\'t make money if don\'t have the rights to your characters. The only reason FOX/SONY/ETC want these characters right now is because of the lucrative trend that comics are setting in the cinema. I\'m willing to bet once that trend like so many other dies off, Marvel gets everything back slowly but surely.
Deadpool isn\'t dead. He went back in time to the original Secret Wars when the two worlds collided.
The retcon story that made them Magneto\'s kids was horrible anyways. Sure later stories made it better but all this does is set their story back to just before their second big parental retcon change (Whizzer and Miss America before Magneto, and the Maximoffs before any of them).
People need to calm down, they\'re not inhumans, they still exsist, they still have a past with magneto... X-Men fans think they got it bad, trying being a Star Wars Expanded Universe fan. Every character I ever cared about no longer exsists and after a year I don\'t even know who\'s replaced most of them. I\'m dealing with it and accepted it. This is a very minor change compared to that and way less than what X-men fans feared would transpire. It was a business decision due to a legal reason, it\'s nothing personal and the way it was done it could be set back very easy once Disney/Marvel has Magneto\'s rights back (Which is inevitable, but may not happen in the next 10+ years). It\'s obvious due to how minimally their past was just retconned Marvel likes them being Magneto\'s kids, just for legal reasons they can\'t use them in Avengers movies unless they did this.
These days I don\'t know the difference between Mutants, Inhumans, & "People just having powers" in the MCU.
Ugh. I hate it when DC and Marvel fuck up their continuity for the sake of the movies. This is just disappointing.
He\'s not dead. His healing is almost as good as Wolverines.
We should be ready for when Fox, in 10 years, gives back the rights to Marvel, and then Marvel will print a Comic saying that indeed they are Magnetos children but they where being protected from some mysterious master plan by a villan yet to be named. Its all about the children. You see.
so what now??????? Quicksilver will no longer be in the next x-men apocalypse movie???

It's stupid, it's just some dumb retcon made just to please the movie fangirls who will just be getting into the comics. Dumb as fuck. I'm tired of the comics trying to copy the movies!

I agree that it's stupid. Not only is it trying to appeal to the wrong crowd, but I'm just damn sick of EVERYTHING coming back to the movies. The comics changing their long histories, the cartoons suddenly have to model the characters after the actors/clothing/everything. I get it. The movies exist and you want me to buy tickets to go see it. BUT STOP SCREWING WITH MY CHARACTERS! Eventually we are going to see a retcon of this retcon and it's going to make me want to kill something.
