New “American Horror Story: Hotel” Theory: The Cecil Hotel
“American Horror Story: Hotel”, which will star Lady Gaga. And like every year prior, we know nothing about it.
Last week we told you the H.H. Holmes theory, in which “Hotel” could be about America’s first serial killer and his “Murder Castle”.
Now, a second theory has come to life, pointing out the recent (January 2013) bizarre events at the Cecil Hotel in which 21-year-old Elise Lam was found dead in a water tank. Prior to drowning in the tank, hotel video surveillance caught haunting footage of her in an elevator having issues (see below).
What’s more shocking is that the hotel was allegedly home to various serial killers from Richard “the Nightstalker” Ramirez and Jack Unterweger.
The kicker? Allegedly Elizabeth Short, also known as the Black Dahlia, was last seen at the Cecil Hotel before her 1947 murder. It should also be noted that Mena Survari appears as the Black Dahlia in an episode of season one! Hmmmm….
Does a black cloud hang over the hotel’s roof? Is it also the inspiration behind FX’s fifth season of “American Horror Story”? Only time will tell.
Which theory do you guys think is more conducive to the series? H.H. Holmes or the Cecil Hotel?

Personally, I’d like to see the H.H. Holmes tale brought to life, however as Ryan Murphy has confirmed, all seasons of AHS are linked. With that being said, the Cecil’s history sure would make it the right location to center this season, providing this season is going to be set in a modern time and do flashbacks. It seems as though there was a pattern going from modern era to decades past era in how the seasons are centered. However, I’m not sure then how that top hat on a coffee cup of a clue would play into the Cecil, making the Holmes theory more viable.
I also read that he confirmed it was set in modern day season 5 so I think you’re right!
no the cecil hotel story is actually scary so it won’t be featured on that show
Jack Unterweger, Austria’s only famous serial killer. Cannot wait to see who plays him if they go that route.
It’s going to be at The Garden of Allah. At the end of Freak Show, Stanley is pleading with Elas for his life. He says, “I really do know people in Los Angeles! My brother works at the Garden of Allah!”
Well, the Garden of Allah was a hotel mainly for stars and celebrities. There doesn’t seem to be much of a bad history behind it. I could be wrong, but it just seems too normal.
Good point. It was frequented by a lot of interesting literary and Hollywood stars of the era, but that’s not much of a horror connection. The Garden of Allah was a hotspot at the time of the Black Dahlia murder. It’s all just conjecture!
True dat. I believe you are correct though, because Murphy did say the last episode would have a huge hint, and it seems to be that the Garden of Allah was indeed that hint
this footage is of the woman found in the hotel’s water tank in Downtown Los Angeles
No more with this lazy fool! Stop taking away material for people who can actually write logical interesting story lines! He needs to be stopped, stop watching him!
Elizabeth Short was last seen at the Biltmore Hotel. There are rumors she once stayed at the Cecil, but nothing concrete.
I think it has to be the Cecil Hotel over HH Holmes, because Holmes’ “reign” was during the Chicago World Fair – only 3 years from 1893 to 1896. Ryan Murphy tends to like generational stories (ie flashbacks that give more opportunity to work characters into the story) and there is definitely a lot of material to work with from the Cecil Hotel. But it could also be like Season One where he takes a lot of popular horror stories based on a house and melds it into one story. Who can say?
I might get flak for this, but I was a little disappointed with ‘AHS-Freaksow’. It started out strong with some great characters, but seemed to start meandering and losing it’s steam halfway through. The whole plot just started to seem like the writers were just making it up as they went. The story was going in 10 different directions and could never seem to find a focus. I hope this new storyline is more solid than last year…
Chuck, you will get no flak from me (and many others). i agree w/ you 100%.
I think the Clown character was great, and they didn’t build on him the way they should have. He was a strong character to build on and I think they dropped the ball by not making him a more central focus of the plot. He was creepy as shit BEFORE he removed his mask, then when I saw what was under the mask I about lost it! They decided to make that Richie Rich goofball the focus instead, and I found myself really hating his character. They should have had the clown kill that motherfucker off in my opinion…
Yep. The clown dying so early really hurt the show
Twisty the Clown was fantastic and one of my favorite AHS characters ever. I’m not sure the producer expected him to be such a hit. I thought Freakshow was still pretty damn good, but I agree Twisty was killed far too early. The team of he and Dandy would’ve been awesome to watch all season.
I’m very interested to see what AHS: Hotel has to offer because the potential is there to do some great stuff. I’m not a Gaga fan at all, but she should fit in well with this kind of show.
I was predicting that Dandy and Twisty would work together for awhile and then Twisty would kill him. I really wish that’s what had actually happened.
I don’t know though…Dandy was my favorite character of any AHS season. I’ve never been so attracted to such a demented character in my life lol. He was absolutely brilliant. I loved Twisty too, but didn’t miss him after Dandy took over.
I’m with you as well. I actually was a little disappointed with Coven as well. They missed so many great opportunities to use actual magic and the hyped up conflict between Jessica Lange and Angela Bassett just fizzled out. I felt like both of the last two seasons were thrown together and/or made up as they went along.
Agree. Started out great then got so boring. But coven and asylum were my favorites. Asylum was the darkest, coven was the bitchiest which i loved.
After resigning my work-desk job twelve months ago, I was blessed to stumble upon this amazing job offer that was a lifechanger for me… They offer online home-based work. Last payment after working with them for four months was 10000 dollars… Amazing thing about is that the only requirement for the job is simple typing and a stable internet connection…
Hey Chucky- no flak here. I never even finished watching Freakshow, and I have watched every season all the way through. I hope they get it back together.
i agree also after killing off twisty the clown i was like uhhhhhh ok,,,,now what,,,and although dandy was an awsome character,it still felt directionless, kinda lost steam,,,,
Personally, were I the one behind the keyboard, I’d combine the two. Set in Detroit, portals in certain rooms open to other places, like Chicago (H.H. Holmes) and LA (Dahlia). Maybe one would open on the Nostromo….
Or Anacapa. Until I see that any of these have to do with a top hat, the Top Hat Burger Palace is the site of the former Anacapa Hotel, which looks creepy as fugg. The top hat hints in Freakshow have to mean something, but it would be interesting to connect season 5 with season 1. And did y’all know H H Holmes might also be Jack the Ripper? Police compared handwriting and portraits of both, and said it is the closest comparison they could find, and Holmes wasn’t in Chicago during the time of the Ripper.
Yeah because with Lady Gaga on the show now that’s likely to happen.
I loved all the musical numbers in Freak Show and I loved The Name Game bit during Asylum.
“A second theory has come to LIGHT*****” And why is the internet obsessed with what AHS:H will be based on? Last time I checked the show was about original stories. Although things like the black dahlia are often tied in on the side, the central story is always totally original.
I thought Ryan Murphy had said that the next AHS was going to to set in more present day? If that’s the case the Cecil Hotel makes perfect sense
I don’t care what it’s about…. I’m so excited!!!
Murder House was set in present day, but it was able to incorporate past events.
The Cecil Hotel please! The Elise Lam case is crazy disturbing, and the Black Dahlia would be a nice connection with season one.
Greg Nicotero wud laFF so hard on the hands on make up effects !! Sorry ..it won’t attract me to watch at any time.
forget this piece of c*ap tv show… get us 2nd seadon of Constantine
my mind was just blow up!!!! i was making a project about the cecil hotel and i am a huge fan of AHS and if that will be true i will cry, like really from happiness and Black Dahlia … wow !!! she was last seen at the cecil hotel? wow, wow, wow, cause i was writing about her too… every thing is just so WOW !!! I am screaming like a little girl now , not even funny anymore..
Cecil is far more attractive to anyone these days! I don’t see what could be more inspirational than a mystery death caught on camera? having a solved case of a serial killer ? ah please…
