Jon: Are Iranians, are they confused about our attitudes towards them, or do they understand... Is there a feeling among them where they say, "Hey OK, our president talks a little volatiley sometimes, I can see how Americans might be annoyed about that," I mean, what is there perception?
Majd: You mean... the Iranian president talks volatiley. They think the American president does as well.
Jon: They would not be mistaken.
Majd: I guess not. No, I think they do understand that that is a problem.

Jon: Our impression, I think, of Iran, is this incredibly closed society and if you, on a Friday night, are caught dancing, then... boink. You know, that's it.
Majd: That's a misconception.
Jon: Can we still bomb you with that misconception?
Majd: Well you can, but you'd be bombing the wrong people, but...
Jon: Well, we've done that too.

Jon: Is the president [Ahmadinejad], with his inflamed rhetoric, playing to a base? Because I know what we're doing, but who is he playing to, what is the base there?
Majd: Well, the ultra-conservative far right base, the religious fanatics base...
Jon: No, no, no, I mean in Iran. What is it in Iran?
Majd: I guess we have a lot in common.

Jon: And this [the nuclear issue] is a respect issue, it's a pride issue, as well as a defense issue?
Majd: It's a defense issue, it's a respect issue, it's not as much of a pride issue as we make it out to be... It's more about rights, it's more about the idea that "It's within our rights as Iranians to have nuclear enrichment, enrichment of Uranium on our own soil, so why are the Americans saying that we can't have it? It's our right." And it is actually in the NPT, the nonproliferation treaty, that every state--
Jon: So it's not a question of let's say, if we got everyone together and threw Iran the World Cup...
Majd: Well, soccer is big there, so that might...
