Firstly, i just want to say i have nothing against any religion or beliefs whatsoever, in fact, i grew up in a catholic town, and thus, most of my friends are catholic.

Now, on to the point, A lot of people have been using: "That offends god" as there only argument for (no one here, thankfully) for homosexual marriage/adoption/surrogacy, abortion, euthanasia, transvestites and transsexuals.
Sadly, they do not elaborate or explain. It is just offensive to god. End of.

Now, i have nothing against people disagreeing with the issues raised above, but isn't there a better argument for it? Most of these people are perfectly intelligent, smart people, surely they can think of a better way to represent there opinions?
or at least.....explain them.

It's basically just the same as the "It's UN-natural" or "Everything happens for a reason" argument, it is untrue and quite frankly, not excusing anything.

If any one knows why god is so offended, please let me know.

To me, this just seems like an easy way out. "Oh, I don't have anything to say about that, so I'm going to bring religion into it because no one can truly refute that argument."

What I find really funny is when people say "God doesn't make mistakes" for one argument, but then turn around and say "That's not what God wants" or "That's unnatural" for another. Well, which is it? If God doesn't make mistakes, then certain things cannot be "unnatural" and cannot "go against God's will" because he made them that way. And if there are things that "go against God's will" and are "unnatural" then God does, indeed, make mistakes.

I look at that as a challenge to say something even more offensive.

This reminds me of Socrates and Euthyphro... What is piety anyway, or rather, what is loved by the gods? Is it loved by the gods because it is pious, or is it pious because it's loved by the gods?

Some philosophy for you.

But in an actual debate forum, this would be considered a logical fallacy.

I'm Christian and I think people usually doesn't know a sh*t about what would God want. Most of them didn't even read the Bible. Also, it's not an argument, since some people doesn't believe in God.

Not that it doesn't make sense to me because I'm Christian myself, but honestly, even I think that using God and His word are unsuccessful uses of argument in usual debates. The other opponent will dismiss your argument or, depending on their personality, rip you a new asshole. So to me, if someone wants to fight for something that they wholeheartedly believe in, use points that the opponent(s) can at least take seriously.

It's something people believe in, and while I don't believe in God I respect people's rights to use him in their arguments. If they're just flashing around their religion then of course it's wrong. For me, in a debate, using that won't make me budge at all. It might work against some people, but not me.

Well, it's not that I'm "torn". I basically see it as this;

I don't see the mention of explication of one's religious beliefs influencing what they think of controversial subjects as a "good argument".

I do, however, see it as a good or at least valid reason for the opinion that you hold.

ok, it really depends on the environment and setting you are having the debate in. If you debate is a more religious setting and everyone has a respect for religious authority and what not then yeah that "can" be a valid argument provided you find proof in the manuscripts. However I don't think you should put a religious judgement on things like science or settings where things are more secular and require more solid or concrete proof.

No. It means nothing as an argument. No-one can say for sure that God exists, or not. Therefore using such a baseless argument seems to insult the idea of debate, more than it does for God.
